Of course, IF Rick's generalization were true, it is not necessarily that it is a "butch lesbian" thing. It could just be a much more general "female socialization" thing. As in, girls in our society/culture are almost constantly surrounded by the idea that women should desire to marry and have kids. Even when parents try not to buy into the "girl toys"(dolls)/"boy toys", there will be other friends or family that DO buy into it. Then there's all the media,as well, in which girls/women are predominately depicted as wanting marriage/family/kids. All while I was a teenager, whenever I would state my distaste for marriage/children, I was told that I would "change my mind". Maybe that happened to guys, too, I don't really know, but I don't remember my male cousins having to deal with it in family gatherings.

Oh, and YAY for DADT being repealed when I didn't really expect it too. Of course, I joined the military shortly before DADT was first passed and I remember it eased my mind some knowing that it was a little protection for me as a lesbian.

This may be of cultural interest to some. A butch lesbian has a very strong desire for a family: kids, wife, etc.

...but she will never get pregnant, herself. She may donate an egg and have it implanted in her wife and the wife usually donates one of her own eggs for a different child so that genetically the kids have the half the same genetics as the couple uses the same sperm donor.

Just an interesting side-note to this conversation.

Links, please.

Stepping aside the awful generalizations. Yuck. (MY world is filled with all flavors)....

Major congrats on DADT. I'm thrilled.

Integration of college sports did that for racism. I'm with you, PIA, hoping the same for our same sex friends.
WAY past due.

The undefined role of the co-parent allowed some women to play with the complex relationship between their gender and sexuality. Lesbian dad, dyke daddy, and high-femme dad were some of the labels co-parents used to describe themselves (Aizley 2006).

Even if a co-parent is comfortable with her role inside the relationship, her social standing is vulnerable. Public forays proved challenging, since they presented opportunities for questions about who the mother and father were and what name the baby called each parent, questions that can be painful for lesbian co-parents. Some co-parents implemented strategies to legitimize their tie to the child. For example, one co-parent preferred to carry the baby in her arms, which made her feel more secure in her parental role (Aizley 2006).

Co-parents often discussed the difficulty outsiders have in understanding the concept of dual mothers, which reflects their cultural attachment to the notion that there can be only one mother. When both mothers were present in a social situation, reactions stemmed from confusion to discomfort to outright rejection. People can have a hard time reconciling how a woman who did not give birth or adopt a child can be a mother. This was reflected in a comment to one co-parent in Dunne‘s (2000:24) study: "Well if you‘re not the biological mother, then what the hell are you?"; Depending on the context, co-parents may decide to fully disclose, partially disclose, or pass as the biological mother (Sullivan 2004).

Rick~Your first link is just a movie review, written with no supporting evidence. It is an opinion, not fact. The movie itself is just a story.

The second link is just the feelings of one(count 'em, ONE) Lesbian, which hardly encompasses all lesbians.

Your generalization is just your opinion, and nothing more. You are going to have to come up with better links than you have provided. rolleyes
