Are our states moving in separate directions? While the article seems to make some sense in the context of the current polarization of political parties, it seems to me that it is a stretch to the postulate that whole communities and indeed, the states themselves are becoming single minded. It is difficult for me to believe that the people either become swayed in their beliefs, or decide to move to areas more in keeping with their thinking. Do you think the author has recognized a new phenomenon, or is capitalizing on the current angst to create "news"?

Interesting, It. Just this morning there was an article in the Arizona Republic, which generally isn't worth reading, that address a significant migration away from party affiliation by registered voters in Arizona. While GOP and Democrat registered voters are decreasing Independents are increasing and the number are significant.
What does it mean? I don't know. Is that happening in other states. I don't know that either. Arizona, as the world knows, lurched to the far right in the last state election. Russell Pearce, the Az State Senate President, who is referred to often even in the bedrock conservative Arizona Republic newspaper as, "Russell Pearce (de facto governor)" is being recalled. That's a first in Arizona's 99 year state history. Does that mean the state is becoming less politically conservative. Hell, no. It do think it means the state is becoming less radical. Teapublicans have begun to wear out their welcome here. But, it isn't over.
At the same time Tucson and much, not all, of southern Arizona is as liberal as ever. They are digging in as a result of the Teabagging state administration.
Is then Arizona more liberal or less conservative overall? I don't think anyone knows. What we do know is that Arizona is less partisan overall. That's a good thing as I see it.

Have you read this article Mick? Radical Center One can link to the actual site from the article. Big changes might be on the way.

Thanks, Ken. I'm going to go check that out. The status quo has lost it's collective mind.

Thanks

I'm going to go check that out. The status quo has lost it's collective mind. Indeed they have, Bobbi. American Select sounds to be a possible solution to the stranglehold corpgov has on America. God, imagine control being in the hands of the people. Washington would feckin hate that. I'd like American Select on the state level as well, but one thing at a time.

I signed up as a delegate too Mick. It may amount to nothing--who knows. But at least it will poke a sharp stick up the collective asses of our bought and paid for politicians-- I surely hope.
I found the questions on their poll to be not detailed enough. I tend to be more of a shades of gray thinker and would have liked to answer some of the questions with a “Yes (or no)--but under these codicils”. But I guess they have to start somewhere. Seems exciting--at least now.
Never give up hope. Otherwise it’s hopeless--no?

Who funds Amerians Elect? Not sure of the funding, but according to Friedman, it's run by Eliott Ackerman Whose father is: Peter Ackerman who is apparently a billionaire. .......................................................... I, too have signed on... the idea seems to be viable.. stimulate discussion and develop consensus. If as I suspect, the growth comes from people who are more than lemmings, any... any outcome has to be better than what we have today. I noted in the sign on to the site... showing ones' colors... that the opinions voiced in the questionnaire respone, were essentially liberal but I think reasonably conservative in the original sense of the word... and with some surprising variances from what I would have expected. I feel better about trying this, than I did with NOTA, which was a wheel spinner. Frankly, I wouldn't expect much this year or next, but I think the website is on to something, and whether here or in a similar effort... could possibly be a factor in the future. As of today, I haven't found any of my friends or acquaintances who will sign on to what their party is doing in Washington. Liberté, égalité, fraternité Of course this whole thing "could" be a type of poll, to be used in bending public opinion... Numan's note about Kahlil Byrd does admittedly bother me.
