(IOW inflict them upon your neighbors!) Is this the Obama Administration's concept of "share the burden" ? Of course I can appreciate the D.C. perspective in this issue. Forced into a "rat-killing" who knows where it would stop ? Perhaps the "rat-killing" might be expanded to two-legged rats as well ! IAC, this is a sterling case of "PCism" run amok ! Now its verboten to kill even known disease carriers ! By D.C. regs control agents have to exert every effort to capture/transfer "rat families" intact ! I'm sure the rats - procreating at geometric rates, based upon food supply - appreciate that constraint ! IOW, "When Idiots Rule" you get an "idiotacracy" that can destroy civilization ! This is merely a minor example of a significantly more serious problem ! >Mech (P.S. I hope the legislators of D.C.'s neighboring states would legislate to make the practice of "release" illegal inside their borders.)

Did anybody else notice that Euthanasia was listed as the final option for both categories of animals caught? Humane euthanasia of rats and mice can be performed in about two seconds per subject using any hard surface, or en masse using a trash can with a tight lid and some dry ice in a cardboard box at the bottom. There was also this complaint: “The new EPA restrictions also limit the use of rodenticides to commensal rodents, so the only [way] pest management professionals can legally manage non-commensal rodents, such as deer and white-footed mice in the District, is to live-capture them or build a completely rodent-proof structure." But isn't a rodent-proof structure what you need to keep commensal rodents out of your building? Do people really build houses, office buildings, restaurants, etc. that rodents are free to enter, and then take care of the problem with a multitude of traps? That sounds pretty disgusting to me! Do you think the formerly-known-as "Conservative News Service" has some sort of ax to grind?
