Publisher Pulls Controversial Thomas Jefferson Book, Citing Loss Of ConfidenceCiting a loss of confidence in the book's details, Christian publisher Thomas Nelson is ending the publication and distribution of the bestseller, The Jefferson Lies: Exposing the Myths You've Always Believed About Thomas Jefferson. The controversial book was written by Texas evangelical David Barton, who NPR's Barbara Bradley Hagerty profiled on All Things Considered Wednesday. The publishing company says it's ceasing publication because it found that "basic truths just were not there." Since its initial publication, historians have debunked and raised concerns about numerous claims in Barton's book. In it, Barton calls Jefferson a "conventional Christian," claims the founding father started church services at the Capitol, and even though he owned more than 200 slaves, says Jefferson was a civil rights visionary. David Barton has a Bachelor of Arts degree in religious education from Oral Roberts University in 1976 with "no academic qualifications in history" who makes stuff up to justify his religious beliefs. (Note, making stuff up is the same as lying). I am thankful that his utter lack of qualifications and his complete failure as a scholar has been brought to light. Unfortunately, Republicans in Texas and elsewhere will continue to lionize this ignorant fanatic, baptising his crap and saying that makes it gold.

Seen on the truck stop restroom wall, "Oral Roberts blows!"

...Barton calls Jefferson a "conventional Christian," claims the founding father started church services at the Capitol, and even though he owned more than 200 slaves, says Jefferson was a civil rights visionary.. That's called: Republican revisionist history. Hey didn't mama grizzly's ilk change facts on her Wikipedia page to support her less-than-knowledgeable meme of reality?

I guess the question would be ... was this book filed under fiction or nonfiction?
Oh, wait! We've already determined its proper placement.
So ... in the fiction section, should it be filed under historic fiction ... or maybe ... fantasy?

It's a given that the Founders were all pious Christians; men who placed the Almighty first in their lives, their work and their country. The burden of proof lies with the deniers. It is they who must provide incontrovertible proof. A witnessed statement declaring fidelity to Satan would suffice.

Actually, this fellow hasn't been paying attention; Jefferson is a freaking heretic and should not be discussed in the free territory of Texas! http://sensuouscurmudgeon.wordpress.com/2010/03/17/thomas-jefferson-cynthia-dunbar-fox-news/

My advisers at B.C. the late Andy Buni and Tom O'Connor could have pointed all this out if they were still around and saved the publishers some level of embarrassment. Well...maybe they could have just gone to that dusty place called "The library" and reviewed the mountain of historical information on Jefferson. Interesting critiques from conservative christian professors. http://blogs.e-rockford.com/applesa...s-distorted-picture-of-thomas-jefferson/
