Nice start but I'd be happier with a four wheeled model that allows me to
have a passenger side by side, even if it only got 65 or 70 mpg.

But still...applause!

Cool car but the "reporters" were so obnoxious I almost didn't finish watching, and they never gave much useful information.

Guess I'll go to the website.

I'm all for it, but I've had my heart broken too many times to go with the hype or buzz. I'd buy it for $6800, and I've got a motorcycle license and helmet, so I might even be able to drive it. Here's the rub, though: it's still technically a motorcycle, and that is unlikely to change anytime soon (what with automotive lobbyists employed in the thousands). There are few new motorcycles that can be had for $6800, and most don't get near 84mpg. So, color me a hopeful skeptic. (Color me green, by the way.)

Now, I have ridden the Can-Am Spyder, and it was fun. It's not really a "motorcycle" either (ride-wise), but sells itself as one. 3-wheels are remarkably stable, but dynamically different than 4. Two wheels in front are more stable than 2 in back (it's a physics thing). Reducing contact with the ground reduces drag and increases fuel efficiency. Having an enclosed cockpit will too, so 84 mpg is not out of the question (I got 70 mpg on my 600cc motorcycle - this is a 900cc). That's plenty of power for its weight... which, btw, I haven't found.

Having been to several motorcycle shows, 3-wheel "cars" are not new. There are several boutique manufactureres out there - and still boutiques. But, visually, I like the balance the Elio provides between function and asthetics much better.

Don't take this as curmudgeonly. I am very much all for this approach, and I may pursue this when it is in production. I may even be salivating, but I am not hyperventilating.

A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.

Here, as elsewhere, people are outraged at what feels like a rigged game -- an economy that won't respond, a democracy that won't listen, and a financial sector that holds all the cards. - Robert Reich

It is technically a motorcycle- one with a roll cage and skin. I thought of the Spyder, too, when I first saw it. It is the real deal, and lot safer than a motorcycle.

The concept was for a two car family where one car is exclusively used by one person for commuting or school. Considering that prices, especially gasoline, are only going up, I'll bet that they'll be more on the road. They also have an arrangement with a credit card company where your payments go to pay for the vehicle (about $160/month)and part for the gas that you charge, so it makes it affordable for even students. Sounds like a good idea and product to me.

Obnoxious is an understatement. The big dork did everything but urinate on it. It was more like a hit piece, although I expect Elio thought that he was getting some free advertising. I can only guess that the ABC reporters were "forced" to report on it to remain credible, but "dis" it so that it was more of a hit piece. The Elio is a threat to sections of the auto industry, who I suspect have influence and spends a lot of money advertising with ABC. Quality product designed and produced by a quality American and dissed by scumbag "reporters."
