First of all, I don't believe this story. Secondly, if true, this is horrifying. Third, what would Mitt Romney's medical waste disposal company do?

OK, horrifying headline, but let's be rational. Cremation is acceptable, burning babies beside trash is repugnant. Unfortunately, the term 'baby' causes readers to imagine a fully formed baby. The headline is unnecessarily incendiary.

A woman carries an embryo for two months. After two months, she carries a foetus. She has a baby after it is born.

Few abortions are performed during the first month of pregnancy. A woman typically suspects that she is pregnant when normal monthly menstruation does not occur.

At the end of two months (the end of the embryonic stage) the (now) foetus is about the size of a kidney bean. So much fluid and tissue is removed during an abortion, finding the tiny thing would be difficult. Of course, the hospital would deal with that fluid just as it would the afterbirth from a normal delivery or miscarriage.

I'm with Rick. I don't believe the story and I want to see the figures.

So, maybe we should consider it a green initiative? I mean the rational mind should consider the dual purpose that cremation and energy generation makes all the sense in the world?

Would you be able to clarify the reason this could not happen in a private enterprise healthcare system? Would not the profit motivated managers look for just such efficiencies?

I think the following is what happened

All sorts of medical waste needs to be incinerated at high temp to. Insure any potential pathogens are destroyed. Probably 99.99 percent of all of this medical waste is not human tissue Bandages. Gloves. Surgical gowns. On and on

So given that you create this extremely hot fire, you can either just waste that heat. Or try to use it for some purpose. Which is apparently what happened

In the USA this would likely happen in some remote facility that many medical facilities use to dispose of their medical waste

Given the potentially toxic gasses from this process. The USA would not allow this to happen in an urban location. And most especially at a medical facility

I have no idea what happens in the uk
But am pretty sure this story has been tweaked to generate outrage

Ma, I'd love to have a conversation or even a debate with you, but I would prefer that you not frame my side of the argument for me, especially since I'm not sure we're on the same plane of consciousness. Your take on what a rational mind should do doesn't seem to be based on first-hand experience with a rational mind.

So maybe you should think back to your sixth grade chemistry class and ask yourself how well moist meat would burn as heating fuel.

And yes, it is entirely possible, if you insist on carrying this into the sunset, to imagine either Mitt's "Medical Wastes R US" or the company owned by Rick Scott's wife doing much the same, and getting a FREE PASS, too.
