Who's Really Waging The War On Christmas? What we who call ourselves Christians fail to understand is that culture did not remove Christ from Christmas. We Christians did. We have permitted and wholeheartedly joined the forces that have transformed Advent, the period from late November to Dec. 24, from a time of waiting and watching for the coming birth of the “Prince of Peace” to one of hyper-consumerism and the worship of stuff.
<snip>
The greatest attack on Christmas is from within. The “war on Christmas” comes from those of us who claim our greatest hope comes from the fact that God became a real person, a person of justice, love, compassion and grace, and then we act nothing like that Jesus.

It seems that Yeshua was born in the fall (according to the scriptures). Link 1 Link 2 Or June: Daily Mail Or not...

Early Christians picked a day to commemorate and celebrate the Birth of Jesus. I don't think matters so much when, as why. The article illustrates the hypocrisy with which those declaring that there is a "war on Christmas" have acted.

The article illustrates the hypocrisy with which those declaring that there is a "war on Christmas" have acted. Yeah the hypocrisy is pretty clear. But I suspect that if you want to celebrate a date, you should get the right one. Or, at least, one that resembles reality. Roman pagans first introduced the holiday of Saturnalia, a week long period of lawlessness celebrated between December 17-25. During this period, Roman courts were closed, and Roman law dictated that no one could be punished for damaging property or injuring people during the week-long celebration. The festival began when Roman authorities chose “an enemy of the Roman people” to represent the “Lord of Misrule.” Each Roman community selected a victim whom they forced to indulge in food and other physical pleasures throughout the week. At the festival’s conclusion, December 25th, Roman authorities believed they were destroying the forces of darkness by brutally murdering this innocent man or woman. Doesn't really jive with the spirit of peace... Origin of Christmas

If no one knows, then most likely any date will be wrong. And there is always going to be those who just have to complain. So I will just celebrate when the church/religion I belong to does(and as it is now the legal holiday here), and try to convey the meaning of "Peace On Earth, and Goodwill Towards All" and leave it at that. If someone tells me "Merry Christmas", I'll say "Merry Christmas" back, and be thankful that they were kind enough to say it to me, especially if they are a stranger. If they say "Happy Holidays", "Happy Hanukkah", "Happy Kwanzaa", "Season's Greetings" or even just "hello", I will reply in kind for the same reasons. I am not offended by any of those phrases.
I will pray and act for peace, and practice goodwill by donating to the homeless, the sick and the poor. I'll celebrate with family and friends and watch "A Charlie Brown Christmas" with my hot cocoa(with REAL whipped cream) in front of my fireplace, being grateful that I have that. I am not going to allow any Scrooges to screw that up for me. Bless your heart.

When I Googled "bless your heart", I found this: Next to that little gem was this:

Zeke, that's a truly awful and inflammatory article. Mostly true, but awful nonetheless. Life was short, ugly and brutal in those days. I'll be the first to admit that early pagans used human sacrifice but even the Romans eventually went to sacrificing animals rather than people. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturnalia
