Republicans to scrap primaries and caucuses as Trump challengers cry foul Four states are poised to cancel their 2020 GOP presidential primaries and caucuses, a move that would cut off oxygen to Donald Trump’s long-shot primary challengers.
Republican parties in South Carolina, Nevada, Arizona and Kansas are expected to finalize the cancellations in meetings this weekend, according to three GOP officials who are familiar with the plans. ---Nothing illustrates an unstable and weak candidate quite like a party closing ranks and shutting out all challengers. Of course, all that will happen is, a bunch of THIRD PARTY libertarian and conservative challengers will throw their hat in the ring to do to Trump what numerous third party challengers have done to Democrats in previous elections, divert votes.

That's an interesting thought. Last I heard, Trump's approval among Republicans was at 90% and any primary challenges were vanity affairs more than real attempts to dethrone his mightiness.
Lone wolves. No true Republicans...
Best as I can guess Republicans really love what he's doing. I don't understand it. But I never have....they just seem so evil...a sort of dark force that keeps dragging civilization back.

Recent polls show Trump's numbers under water compared to the top 4 democratic candidates. Things can change quickly though as we all know. Trump reflects to his base their sense of resentment towards the elites, towards the establishment, towards the wealthy, towards the east coast, towards the well-off, towards the well connected or whatever. Keeping in mind that this is a NY billionaire that has been well connected himself becoming a millionaire by the age of 3. Trump channels that sense of grievance and he plays off of it. He's basically saying to his base, "look what they're doing to me and they would do the same to you, and you have to stand up against them".

Of course, all that will happen is, a bunch of THIRD PARTY libertarian and conservative challengers will throw their hat in the ring to do to Trump what numerous third party challengers have done to Democrats in previous elections, divert votes. The shutdowns aren’t without precedent. Some of the states forgoing Republican nomination contests have done so during the reelection bids of previous presidents. Arizona, GOP officials there recalled, did not hold a Democratic presidential primary in 2012, when Barack Obama was seeking a second term, or in 1996, when Bill Clinton was running for reelection. Kansas did not have a Democratic primary in 1996, and Republican officials in the state pointed out that they have long chosen to forgo primaries during a sitting incumbent’s reelection year. Is there a double standard here? Did Jeffery complain when the Democrats didn't have primaries when Presidents Clinton and Obama were up for reelection? The quote I posted is from the Politico story Jeffery posted.

The quote I posted is from the Politico story Jeffery posted. Actually, I didn't have the first clue who "that Obama guy" with the funny name even was and I was preparing myself mentally to vote for McCain until "that woman" showed up next to him. My wife threw one of her slippers at the screen the morning she opened her big stupid Sarah Palin yapper. Clinton 1992 defeated former and future Governor of California Jerry Brown, former Massachusetts Senator Paul Tsongas, and other candidates (including Senator Bob Kerrey from Nebraska, Senator Tom Harkin from Iowa, and Governor Douglas Wilder of Virginia to win his party's nomination. In 1996 he ran unopposed. So I take it you have a problem with that. The DNC did not close or cancel the primaries in 1996, you have that wrong. Proposed 1996 candidates trying to primary Bill Clinton were Bill Lyndon LaRouche, Activist from Virginia and Jimmy Griffin, Former Mayor of Buffalo from New York. They didn't cancel or close the primaries in 2008 either. Withdrawn candidates - 2008 Obama ran unopposed in the 2012 election, but the DNC did not close or cancel the primaries in 2012 either. DNC branches in individual states make their decisions at the state level. The GOP is proposing to do it at the national level.

Sounds like maybe a single standard is in play...
I agree, though, let the fear driven Conservatives try to protect King Kon by closing primaries, and some turd party candidates will run against him in the general election.

Nope. Republicans don't operate that way. I'm not saying there won't be a third party candidate on the ticket against Trump but They usually lock onto an authority figure then ride him til he drops. Any third party candidate will be seen as disloyal to His Magnificence and the Party. There is nobody waiting in the wings to rescue them, no dark horses. No excuses. They got to walk that Lonesome Valley, they got to walk it by themselves. Nobody else can walk it for them...

Did LaRouche enter the Arizona Democratic primary?
