I think we just need to call off this election and start all over. Having a woman and a half white, half black man who are running for president is just too complicated for America. Well, to be fair, at this point in time you can only declaratively state that it is just too complicated for Democrats and the Democratic Party. Kinda ironic, huh?;-)) Yours, Issodhos Im soooorrrry Iss... I forgot the "MUCH Older Man" Mr. McCain. Age seems to a big deal on the Repub side.

Truth be told I still hold doors open for women, I stand up when they come in my office, when they come to the table at a restaurant. I walk on the street side of the sidewalk when I am with a woman. I'm comfortable doing those kinds of things. I wouldn't hesitate to move a file cabinet or carry heavy boxes for women. Some would consider that sexist, some have. Most women appreciate it.
I'm a fool for feminine ladies with brains. TOOO-SHAY, Mick... I too try to exert those same efforts for a woman. Yes, it's all old school etiquette, but I don't think that I do those things because of some standard set whenever. I do them out of simple politeness, certainly without coerced or demanded respect, but out of basic human respect. When leaving a restaurant and there's people behind me, and it could be a man or a few men, I'll hold a door open. If I see a man who is carrying something difficult and awkward, I'll offer help. Do I think woman are special over men? Well, maybe because I'm a run of the mill heterosexual who happens to appreciate and repect women. I try to extend human kindness and decency when ever possible. But I've certainly had women extend the same respect to me. Maybe in different ways, but certainly way more than I probably deserve. Well said Austin. Me too. I'll help anybody if I can. I think most people are like that. I find these days women hold doors for you if you are right behind them and I appreciate that. I like women who like being women, that's never going to change. Hell, son, my own mother was a woman!

At the risk of seeming task-masterly, um...does anyone have any comments on the article itself? (And yes, I think we've become a nicer place to live since everyone is holding doors for everyone else.)

Guilty.
Just being honest.
I still have to keep myself in check.
I have worked with some amazing women before and totally respected them as very capable professionals.
But, being a heterosexual man, it's always going to be, for lack of a better word, "reduced" to the difference in chromosomes at play here.
Now, I would not suggest that it is ever OK to be disrespectful.
To the contrary, I also am mindful of which side of the walk I occupy. I also hold doors and lift boxes, happily... And for more selfish reasons anyway... What hetero man would NOT want a lady walking away with a favorable impression of him? Just being honest again.
To be more honest, I just stopped draggin' my knuckles last year.

And to echo what Slipped said: I like women who like being women.
I don't care what anybody says... Women have the TRUE power.
It is the enticing qualities of women which motivate just about everything your average hetero male will ever do.
Maybe I've totally lost it but I THINK I'm spot on here.
And there's nothing more attractive that a woman who knows this and is able to relish it.
There's nothing more unattractive than a woman who knows this and resents it.
You broke it but you wanna see it shatter...

Well, if I wanted to pump up support for Hillary Clinton and "Get Out The Vote" I couldn't think of a more effective tactic than to write an opinion piece like that. Very clever. Apparently it is working, which kind of does support the idea that women are more prone to emotional manipulation than intellectual argument.
That is to say, only to the extent they fall for it.

Sticksnstrings - Congratulations, and it looks like your knuckles are healing very nicely! But I don't think you're guilty of anything. The only guilty parties in this thread (to my opinion) are a) the author of the article and b) the editors who published it.

My impression of the article and it's author?
She needs to get laid!
I'm secure with myself enough to be able to admit to appreciating Obama's intellect and his more manly attributes. Sorry but that is one fine looking man.
