Just wondering what liberties people think are the most important. Maybe give an idea of how valuable it is and to what extent you would protect it.

Also, is there something else you would like to see as a protected right? Hawaiian shirt Friday or the repeal of all blue laws in the northern half of you town after 5pm?

This is mostly to see how people perceive the respective rights we cherish and see how others might see those we are not so prone to protect.

Cheers

IMHO there are a lot of intrusions into our Fourth Amendment rights over which the gubbmint has no rightful control. Personally I am more concerned with First Amendment rights. I've gotten into a lot of trouble defending them - in my way - including two arrests (and of course, convictions).

My "personal peeve" [AND "rights"-robbing "action"?] is "The Safety-Belt Enforcement Check" [?][AND OTHER "[non-]specific" "road blocks".]

"Entrapment"? "Harassment"? "Youbetchya!"

[Of course,if you're a "Pooh-Bah" -"Haw-haw"/"no worries"!]

Any law or executive order that includes the words
"and for other purposes" falls under my radar as an attack
on my rights.

I'm with mama on the entrapment/roadblock thing.

Even though I wear seat belts (a bad car wreck will teach you every time!) and don't participate in illegal drugs, I think those are individual choices concerning your own health and well being.

I think all drugs should be legalized (but regulated to protect other people of course....like alcohol and cigarettes, the most dangerous drug!)

One more thing about roadblocks....it implies guilt, doesn't it? nono

Steve,

I believe that all the 10 Amendments are interdependent with ultimately the 2nd being the one that guarantees all of the others. The Founding Fathers had real personal experience with a tyrant and inscribe the appropriate measures to restrict any abuses. Some 200+ years later we've come full circle and instead of the King's will being done, it's the government's (i.e. corp's)will that is done.A Bay County Chief Deputy arrested a friend of mine over some article that he wrote when former FDLE Commissioner Guy Tunnel was the Bay County Sheriff. In court, Tunnel's Chief Deputy testified that he didn't know what the First Amendment was. Does that surprise you?

No, not at all.

I am particularly concerned with the part of the First Amendment that guarantees us citizens the right to petition our government for the redress of grievances. Personally, I think the only thing the Second Amendment, as it is interpreted today, guarantees is a lot more dead and injured people. You can't fight the King with hand held weapons. The only level playing field is the field of ideas and arguments.

Wow, Steve.
Right on.
