Since 9/11, and seemingly without the notice of most Americans, the federal government has assumed the authority to institute martial law, arrest a wide swath of dissidents (citizen and noncitizen alike), and detain people without legal or constitutional recourse in the event of "an emergency influx of immigrants in the U.S., or to support the rapid development of new programs."
Beginning in 1999, the government has entered into a series of single-bid contracts with Halliburton subsidiary Kellogg, Brown and Root (KBR) to build detention camps at undisclosed locations within the United States. The government has also contracted with several companies to build thousands of railcars, some reportedly equipped with shackles, ostensibly to transport detainees.
According to diplomat and author Peter Dale Scott, the KBR contract is part of a Homeland Security plan titled ENDGAME, which sets as its goal the removal of "all removable aliens" and "potential terrorists."
Fraud-busters such as Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Los Angeles, have complained about these contracts, saying that more taxpayer dollars should not go to taxpayer-gouging Halliburton. But the real question is: What kind of "new programs" require the construction and refurbishment of detention facilities in nearly every state of the union with the capacity to house perhaps millions of people?
Sect. 1042 of the 2007 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), "Use of the Armed Forces in Major Public Emergencies," gives the executive the power to invoke martial law. For the first time in more than a century, the president is now authorized to use the military in response to "a natural disaster, a disease outbreak, a terrorist attack or any other condition in which the President determines that domestic violence has occurred to the extent that state officials cannot maintain public order."
The Military Commissions Act of 2006, rammed through Congress just before the 2006 midterm elections, allows for the indefinite imprisonment of anyone who donates money to a charity that turns up on a list of "terrorist" organizations, or who speaks out against the government's policies. The law calls for secret trials for citizens and noncitizens alike. The San Francisco Cronicle
"The liberties of a people never were, nor ever will be, secure, when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them."~Patrick Henry

U.S. Rep. Jane Harman, D-Venice (Los Angeles County) has come up with a new way to expand the domestic "war on terror." Her Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act of 2007 (HR1955), which passed the House by the lopsided vote of 404-6, would set up a commission to "examine and report upon the facts and causes" of so-called violent radicalism and extremist ideology, then make legislative recommendations on combatting it.
According to commentary in the Baltimore Sun, Rep. Harman and her colleagues from both sides of the aisle believe the country faces a native brand of terrorism, and needs a commission with sweeping investigative power to combat it.
A clue as to where Harman's commission might be aiming is the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act, a law that labels those who "engage in sit-ins, civil disobedience, trespass, or any other crime in the name of animal rights" as terrorists. Other groups in the crosshairs could be anti-abortion protesters, anti-tax agitators, immigration activists, environmentalists, peace demonstrators, Second Amendment rights supporters ... the list goes on and on. According to author Naomi Wolf, the National Counterterrorism Center holds the names of roughly 775,000 "terror suspects" with the number increasing by 20,000 per month. The above is from the link in the posting above. For several days now the text of Thought Crimes Agenda Already Being Implemented has been sitting in the inbox of my yahoo e-mail account. I knew I wanted to do something with it but wasn't sure what. Then I read the above post and its link. Part of me looks at these two reports and thinks, "OMG, soon I'm going to be taping odd articles up on the walls of my room and entering some form of psychosis." I'm often suspicious of the person who posted this article on a bulletin board I read and I know nothing about roguegovernment.com. Is it reliable? Is it the output of some off-the-wall loonies? But if the articles are true and our country is coming to this, what can we do? Apparently the days of "there's nothing to fear but fear itself" are long gone. Have we reached a point in our history where all we do is fear? Guiliani (sp?) expressed horror that 9-11 was never mentioned at the Dem. convention and proceeded to play the "fear card." Will it work again? Does it even matter who wins this fall? The House bill behind both these articles passed 404 to 6! Is such an attack on anyone who thinks differently what this country really wants?

I keep wondering when it will percolate into people's consciousness that we live in a totalitarian society. __________________

humphreysmar,
From the article link you provided: "One of the bill’s provisions gives the Department of Homeland Security the authority to fund a University based Center of Excellence to study ways to thwart what the government believes are extremist belief systems and radical ideologies of individual Americans." Unfortunately, the DHS regards the US Constitution and Bill of Rights as one of those "extremist belief systems and radical ideologies.."
We've been a police state for some time. The Patriot Act et al just made it "legal." The rule of law went out the window some time ago and was replaced by the rule of fear. A recent example is the treatment of the protesters and journalists at the RNC in Minnesota. No subtlety there, but rather in your face police state tactics meant to threaten and intimidate. They even charged some of those journalists with felonies and the protesters under a state version of the Patriot Act.
The "government" along with the corp/MSM has been desensitizing and training Americans to accept these un-Constitutional and un-American laws and tactics for years. "They" have just moved from a covert to an overt police state at WARP speed during this Administration. If Obama is elected, one of the first things that he should do is to begin dismantling the police state that his predecessor erected with the help of the democrats.

The Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing on September 16 on "Restoring the Rule of Law." An idea whose time has come? Hey, I have an idea! Why not require the bureaucrats and assorted public servants, including all the "Honorables," to take a course on the rule of law and possibly toss in ethics to boot. Why not? Even create an annual "Rule of Law & Ethics" award and ceremony (something like an Oscar presentation). Naturally, a nominal stipend (say around 250k Euros)to provide the necessary motivation. But, what to name the award? How about the "George W. Bush" or possibly "William Jefferson Clinton" Rule of Law & Ethics award?

From Dennis Kucinich: Remembering 9/11 and Moving Towards a Re-United States of AmericaThe dominant color of our new national security since 911 is neither red, white nor blue. Everyday is orange. Everyday reminders of fear of 9/11 become banal... Yet we no longer hear the airport announcements nor see the orange colored warnings because they have [become] commonplace standards in our new national security state, as is the Patriot Act, wiretapping, and a host of invasions of privacy and diminution of civil liberties. The Constitution has been roundly attacked by the very people who took an oath to defend it.
There is a powerful desire across America for change, not necessarily from control by one political party to another, but a change from living with lies to living with truth. Raw Story reports that Dennis will: introduce a Bill in Congress to create a "Truth and Reconciliation Commission" to examine what really went on within the Bush White House in the aftermath of 9/11 and the lead up to the Iraq war. He says only an independent body with truth-seeking as its goal -- rather than "fake political unity" -- can repair divisions that have emerged in an increasingly polarized nation. Please consider making a donation to Dennis' re-election campaign, to ensure that he will continue to serve our shared priorities. The Republicans have raised over $1 Million to defeat him, and you can expect the DNC won't be helping him a whole lot.
Steve Give us the wisdom to teach our children to love, to respect and be kind to one another, so that we may grow with peace in mind. (Native American prayer)
