I never knew that Richard Nixon (*your edited slur* is against the guidelines btw;) was here in Florida when he made that famous statement, not 20 miles from where I sit. I just makes me all goodebumps to think.......

Thank you. Olyve, my nephew is an example of what happens when young men don't use drugs wisely.

Au contraire, mon frere - Tricky Dick is okay because he's no longer in office.

If that's not the case it should be okay simply because when I was young I believed that was his actual name.

Having had my fun, I will join Olyve in extending my sympathy for your loss. I have a nephew on a similar road; I hope he finds his turning soon.

Oh - and I missed this completely -

1950 - Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, was enthroned as Tibet's head of state at the age of fifteen.

So I wish an excellent good morning to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

Another great Homosexual of History!

I wasn't around yesterday, but saw that Dostoevsky was mentioned... Regarding his death sentence being commuted, I learned in my CompLit Dostoevsky class in college that the Czar had the guards wait until he was in front of the firing squad to tell him that his sentence was to be commuted- to teach him a lesson. Well, apparently the lesson learned lead to some of the greatest works of literture, IMHO.

Great intro, Greger!Loved the ukelele music! ThumbsUp

The fires closest to me are worsening, but still not close enough to threaten my home. Heavy smoke is still visible to the west. The number of burned-down homes just keeps growing. One spot of good news concerning the fires- a man was caught setting a fire in the Malibu area. A witness saw the suspect light some brush and leave. The witness was able to stomp out the fire, and call the police with a description. The police was able to catch the culprit...I hope they lock him up for good! mad

Why on the name of all that's holy would a person do such a thing? Escapes me.

This time around the fires are not close to my house (a few weeks ago they were) so I'm as safe as I can be from the fires.

The fires did get very close to where my brother lives with his wife and 18 month old twins but it didn't get any closer than 2 miles.
