For the Welsh people. History showed us
He was too big to be nailed to the wall

Ultraviolet radiation from young massive stars create waves of superheated hydrogen gas. Intense heat and pressure cause some material to stream away from the surfaces in veils of green. The pressure on the tips of the waves may trigger new star formation within them.

Hey Steve, Bum Phillips, former coach of the Oilers was once asked by the press if he took his wife to away games. He replied that he did, because she was too ugly to kiss goodbye- told to be a true story. If you’ll remember, he would not wear his cowboy hat during home games because his maw raised him to never wear a hat indoors. (Astro Dome)
Many thanks to Sky for giving me my old identity back! I appreciate your efforts on my behalf.

Good morning all! The sun has finally come out after three days of rain and wind. I've done the taxes and we're getting a refund. I watched on television the shuttle land safely yesterday and found out that the next one might be taking off when we are in the area on vacation in May. And of course, Steve has once again provided us with wonderful things to click on. It's a happy day!

I forgot to say, Steve, that the next Shuttle will be going to the Hubble Space Telescope, the source of that fantastic photo today.

Morning everybody.

Fantastic, Steve.
Music is wonderful. Yaaaa Blues Traverler.
I've got a lot more clicking to do throughtout the day. Thanks for the great visuals to start my day.

I'm checking a customer's cat twice a day while she and another customer (they are partners) are off to sea cruise for 6 days. This is great as he is a sick boy with a dreadful cancer. He's feeling good right now though so she's taking him for a pleasure trip.
I'm happy to help.

Storms stayed south of us. We got much needed rain but none of the awful stuff.
Glad you made it through ok, Emma.

Great work, Steve, as usual, an incredible opener!
I thought I heard a shuttle landing yesterday, a little surprising that they landed it here since the weather was so crappy, the double sonic boom was so close together that it sounded like a single explosion. It really rattles the windows.
We had the wind and the clouds yesterday but no rain. I went out and cleaned the gutters in anticipation though, it has arrived but so far just drizzly with no downpours. Gonna be a nice day to stay in and cook.

Chunks of Slow Roasted Jerk Pork with Sweet Onions from my garden and Red and Green peppers. Basmati Rice with Pigeon Peas and Tomatoes, seasoned with a touch of Allspice. Black Seedless Grapes, Papaya, and Orange slices on the side to kill the Scotch Bonnet Burn. The Salad will be Spinach with a Warm Bacon Dressing and dessert a Key Lime Pie.
I've done the pork a couple times already for myself but now it's ready to serve company.

COINCIDENCE? I think NOT!

Don't grill or toast your flock.
Don't put us on the barbecue
Or simmer us in stock.
Don't braise or bake or boil us

Oh, please don't lightly poach us
Or baste us with hot fat.

Or boil us in a vat,
And please don't stick thy servants, Lord,

FROM THE CHURCH OF INEFFABLE STUPIDITY:

a) Spanish court embarrasses Obama Administration.
Quote
LONDON — A Spanish court has taken the first steps toward opening a criminal investigation into allegations that six former high-level Bush administration officials violated international law by providing the legal framework to justify the torture of prisoners at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, an official close to the case said. . . .

The case, against former Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales and others, was sent to the prosecutor’s office for review by Baltasar Garzón, the crusading investigative judge who ordered the arrest of the former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet. The official said that it was “highly probable” that the case would go forward and that it could lead to arrest warrants.

The complaint under review also names John C. Yoo, the former Justice Department lawyer who wrote secret legal opinions saying the president had the authority to circumvent the Geneva Conventions, and Douglas J. Feith, the former under secretary of defense for policy.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/29/world/europe/29spain.html?bl&ex=1238472000&en=c80c6a0c9c8527c2&ei=5087%0A

The Spanish justice system has enough information and evidence to pursue legal actions against those in the Bush administration who ordered torture to take place, but our own DOJ doesn't? Mr. Holder, maybe you could benefit from taking some continuing legal education courses.

In Spain.

b) Dick Cheney

According to the New Yorker, Cheney did his best to undermine incoming President Obama's relationship with Israel.
Quote
The Obama transition team also helped persuade Israel to end the bombing of Gaza and to withdraw its ground troops before the Inauguration. According to the former senior intelligence official, who has access to sensitive information, “Cheney began getting messages from the Israelis about pressure from Obama” when he was President-elect. Cheney, who worked closely with the Israeli leadership in the lead-up to the Gaza war, portrayed Obama to the Israelis as a “pro-Palestinian,” who would not support their efforts (and, in private, disparaged Obama, referring to him at one point as someone who would “never make it in the major leagues”). But the Obama team let it be known that it would not object to the planned resupply of “smart bombs” and other high-tech ordnance that was already flowing to Israel. “It was Jones”—retired Marine General James Jones, at the time designated to be the President’s national-security adviser—“who came up with the solution and told Obama, ‘You just can’t tell the Israelis to get out.’ ”

The difference between the present and last administration - words can hardly describe it adequately. I wonder how many outgoing administrations tried sabotage as a parting gift to their successors.

The rest of the article, concentrating on Syria and Golan Heights, is well worth a read.

c) Health Care idiocy
We now have 7,000,000 unemployed. That means that the 40,000,000 uninsured is probably closer to 60,000,000. And that means that when people try to buy their own coverage, to replace what their employer used to do, they end up SOL.
Quote
Trying to buy health insurance on your own and have gallstones? You'll automatically be denied coverage. Rheumatoid arthritis? Automatic denial. Severe acne? Probably denied. Do you take metformin, a popular drug for diabetes? Denied. Use the anti-clotting drug Plavix or Seroquel, prescribed for anti-psychotic or sleep problems? Forget about it.

This confidential information on some insurers' practices is available on the Web -- if you know where to look.

What's more, you can discover that if you lie to an insurer about your medical history and drug use, you will be rejected because data-mining companies sell information to insurers about your health, including detailed usage of prescription drugs.

http://www.miamiherald.com/323/story/973158.html

Health care today is pathetic. Immoral. Insane.

Yet, the conservative Dems, under Evan Bayh, are threatening to join with the neocon remnants in the Senate (formerly known as the Regional GOP), to prevent any changes to this sick system.

d) Joe Biden
What a fool! In one single, stupid, short-sighted statement, he changed the way America will deal with Latin America.

Just who does he think he is? George Bush and Dick Cheney spent 8 long, hard, trying years, insuring that everyone in that region hates and fears us. All that good work just went down the tubes.
Quote
US Vice President Joe Biden said that the United States would no longer "dictate unilaterally" to Latin America, and that it had entered a new era in the historically troubled relationship.

"The time of the United States dictating unilaterally, the time where we only talk and don't listen is over," Biden said in Santiago after holding discussions with a clutch of Latin American leaders at a conference at a Chilean beach resort.

http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/ne...ating_to_latin_america_biden.php?ref=fp3

Sheesh. The idea that we can't dictate to them little peoples to the south is plum crazy! Why else are they there? Who will cut our lawns, raise our babies, and serve as slave labor for Big Ag. Geez, the next thing will be Joe Biden preventing Big Pharma from using them little latinos as guinea pigs for experimental medicines! How crazy is that?

- - -

e) Torture errors
When the CIA tortured Abu Zubaida using water boarding (in your spare time, go see what senators Kyl, Chambliss, Brownback, Cornyn, Bond and Colburn have to say about torture, and why waterboarding is so important to the American way of life), several administration cheerleaders were pushing for more.

The success speaks for itself.
Quote
When CIA officials subjected their first high-value captive, Abu Zubaida, to waterboarding and other harsh interrogation methods, they were convinced that they had in their custody an al-Qaeda leader who knew details of operations yet to be unleashed, and they were facing increasing pressure from the White House to get those secrets out of him.
The methods succeeded in breaking him, and the stories he told of al-Qaeda terrorism plots sent CIA officers around the globe chasing leads.
In the end, though, not a single significant plot was foiled as a result of Abu Zubaida's tortured confessions, according to former senior government officials who closely followed the interrogations. Nearly all of the leads attained through the harsh measures quickly evaporated, while most of the useful information from Abu Zubaida -- chiefly names of al-Qaeda members and associates -- was obtained before waterboarding was introduced, they said.

Dick Cheney and John Yoo must be so proud.
