57% Want Military Response to North Korea Missile Launch
Rasmussen

Quote
Fifty-seven percent (57%) of U.S. voters nationwide favor a military response to eliminate North Korea’s missile launching capability.

[SNIP]

Support for a military response comes from 66% of Republicans, 52% of Democrats and 54% of those not affiliated with either major political party. There is no gender gap on the issue as a military response is favored by 57% of men and 57% of women.

Overall, 75% of voters say they’ve been closely following news stories about the possible launch. That figure includes 40% who’ve followed the news Very Closely.

Seventy-three percent (73%) are at least somewhat concerned that North Korea will use nuclear weapons against the United States.

What's your opinion?

I favor a commitment, very publicly announced, that the next time photo reconnaissance confirms activity in preparation for another launch, a multilateral air force under UN auspices will bomb the launch complex to smithereens, but as long as the launch facility is inactive, all will be left alone.

Just goes to show you how many people think America should rule the world, and rule it with an iron fist. If American couldn't even defeat a piddling nation like Iraq with no army to speak of, what in the world will happen when we attack a nation with an army larger than the entire population of Iraq? A nation governed by fanatics who have been preparing themselves for war for over 50 years when the last one ended. I'm slightly skeptical of those numbers, but who knows, maybe America really is that stupid.
Even George Bush steared way clear of that hornets nest.

It blows my mind that we get our shorts in a major knot. We have deadly weapons up the wazoo; bombs and missiles that could destroy the entire world. That's fine. (Even when George Dick Cheney was in control.) What's good for the goose is obviously not good for the gander.

Only 27% say the United States should help North Korea rebuild its economy if it is willing to abandon its missile program
I'm with that 27%. Looking for a positive...and humanitarian...solution is better than aligning with the Dark Side.

Or: How about we abandon ours if they abandon theirs? (No, huh?)

It has nothing to do with "America ruling with an iron fist".
North Korea is an unstable country ruled by a maniac.
Yes, it's a lot more unstable than ours, and yes, their maniac is more maniacal, pound for pound, than George W. Bush ever was.
Maybe not by much, but yeah...there is a difference.

Kim Jong Il is Cheney "un-chened" and drunk with power.

I'm not saying I expect a response to THIS test, but plans should be in place in case there's another more successful one.
BTW, we DO HAVE the ability to see right up their "ass end" with regard to that base and a few others, without the need for space based satellites.
Nope, we have something much much better where North Korea is concerned. We have ship mounted imaging gear that can pretty much see straight through mountains and look at what's behind them.

So all I am saying is that should Kim Jong Il decide to start refueling another Taepodong or similar long range missile, we should have the stomach to shoot it down if he lets it fly.

Cheaper to blow up the pad than to shoot down several missiles.

Newsweek weighs in with what is likely to be an unpopular opinion. But please check out their analysis before you decide.

Attention seeking missile: Pyongyang is trying to provoke a response

A Chinese adage suggests that a "cornered dog bites." President Obama and the international community should signal that we are not simply responding to a crisis or "managing" the North Korean problem. It is time to address and, where possible, eliminate problem areas with North Korea—while maintaining a "stern and unified" stance on the core issues.

True that...either one's fine with me.
In fact, you're right...we could just keep blowing up their launch pad every time, but they'll eventually adapt to mobile.
Then we get to shoot em down some more.
No...I am NOT in favor of an invasion.

What are they going to do if we keep shooting down their missiles, invade US? Not likely.

And despite the size of their army I do not believe they could sustain a war in the region the way they could in the 1950's.
They could inflict major damage for a while but I do not believe that they could sustain any kind of occupation.

I think our military brass knows this too.

Wow. So now we are going to use military force pre-emptively? Where did I hear that one before? What is wrong with you who advocate bombing a nation that has not attacked anyone else? What a f'ing crazy world.

Why does N Korea not have the right to develop missiles, even ones for military purposes? Does Israel have that right? Germany? Italy? The U.S.?

Warmongers unite! The sky is falling, we need to bomb the crap out of it before it falls on us.

North Korea continues to position forces into the area just north of the DMZ— in a position to threaten Combined Forces Command and all of Seoul with little warning. Seventy percent of their active force, including approximately 700,000 troops, over 8,000 artillery systems, and 2,000 tanks, is postured within 90 miles of the Demilitarized Zone. This percentage continues to rise despite the June 2000 summit. Most of this force in the forward area is protected in over 4,000 underground facilities, out of over 11,000 nationwide. From their current locations, these forces can attack with minimal preparations or warning. The protracted southward deployment follows a tactic of “creeping normalcy”—a significant movement over a period of many years that would attract too much international attention if accomplished over weeks or months.
You would like to send maybe 50,000 American troops in to whoop some ass?

What does our military Know?
Quote
According to remarks made by General LaPorte, commander USFK, during congressional testimony in March 2003 North Korea has for the past 10 or 12 years adapted its military on what the military leadership perceives as the strengths of the United States military. The KPA has adapted in several ways. First in terms of communications the North Korean military has developed an indigenous, frequency-hopping radio that allows soldiers to communicate in a secure mode. Fiber optics have been installed between fixed facilities. And in attempt to protect its forces from US surveillance and air capabilities, the North Koreans have built a tremendous number of underground facilities throughout North Korea to protect leadership and critical forces.

They also have an air force.....

Quote
More than 420 fighters, bombers, transport planes, and helicopters were redeployed in October 1995, and more than 100 aircraft were moved forward to the three air bases near the DMZ. More than 20 Il-28 bombers were moved to Taetan which shortened their arrival time to Seoul from 30 minutes to 10 minutes. Over 80 MiG-17s redeployed to Nuchonri and Kuupri are able to attack Seoul in 6 minutes. By these redeployments North Korea intends to make a first strike with outdated MiG-17s and the second strike with mainstay fighters such as MiG-21s and Su-25s.

And by golly wouldn't you know it. A Navy too!

Quote
Approximately 60 percent of the North Korean naval force is deployed close to the front line area. They include 430 combat vessels, such as patrol boats, missile boats, torpedo boats and fire support vessels, 35 submarines including 9 small ones, and 335 supporting vessels such as landing ships and air cushion vessels. Support vessels are composed of amphibious vessels including personnel landing craft, landing craft air cushion (LCAC), surface patrol boats and mine countermeasure vessels. These support vessels, however, have a limited role in long-distance operations.
