Once again Massachusetts is a trail blazer in gay rights: Read Mass. first to fight U.S. marriage law. Sometimes when I read and watch news from other parts of the United States I feel as if I am living in another country. (The so far nine pages of comments are interesting.) None of these pictures are mine: I was planning to go to Best Buy this morning to upgrade my camera from a Nikon D70 to a D90 (with my wife's blessing). Now I'm especially happy I choose to patronize this store. My town of Middleboro was one of the first in Massachusetts to have a student gay straight alliance. I was on the advisory committee when it first started. Now look at the list of how many schools here have them. ![[Linked Image from farm4.static.flickr.com]](http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3114/2578575629_50acf64bdf.jpg)

Rick, is that because you are really two states?
We don't have a line across our state. We have gay enclaves and a hugely gay friendly straight population in the western part of the state, in the beautiful Berkshires (Amherst, Northampton) and of course Boston and Provincetown.
We have so many gay folks here that you really have to have a "I am a bigot" sign on you not to have at least some gay acquaintances, and probably some gay friends.
Our own rather Republican town has a lesbian minister and her church and the Unitarian church were performing same sex marriage days after they were made legal.

Rick, is that because you are really two states? I wouldn't say we are "two states" in that regard - but the religious perspective of voters dominate at the ballot box here as we saw with Prop 8. Ironically, it was two minority groups that voted against the interest of another minority group. We are "two states" in the sense that there is a distinction between the North and South: culture, aesthetics, attitude. San Francisco more identifies with New York City. The South loves us northerners - we don't return that love. Seriously. LA is California's bastard step-child as far as NorCal is concerned. (...but we love San Diego and San Diego loves us )

We're cross-posting. Isn't Orange County known as a right-wing stronghold? Or am I out of date? Wikipedia: The county is famous for its tourism, the home of such attractions as Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm, as well as several beaches along more than 40 miles (64 km) of coastline. It is also recognized for its nationally known centers of religious worship, such as True Jesus Church, Crystal Cathedral, Saddleback Church, and Calvary Chapel. It is often portrayed in the media as an affluent and politically conservative region.

Oh, I'm all for stalking! Let's find that guy! Hopefully he's single, emotionally stable, and is relationship material.

Isn't Orange County known as a right-wing stronghold? Or am I out of date? Yes Orange County still is. LA is the only "progressive" part of SoCal. However, San Diego just flipped recently and is more Democratic than Republican - but just barely. In fact, I have a date with the SD Democratic Chairman next Friday. We met in March. He'll be up here on biz.
