Canaries have highly sensitive metabolisms. They would begin swaying on their perches when exposed to methane and carbon monoxide, sometimes well before they stopped singing and died, hopefully giving miners ample time to escape before an explosion or cave in.

My Uncle Jack was a coal miner. He also never used to shut up about it once he retired.

I kinda really miss him cause he was fun. My dad used to say he was 5 pounds of crap crammed into a 2 pound bag (it was an accurate description), but he was fun too.

I learned a lot of stuff from Uncle Jack, most of it stuff I never thought I would need to know. You'd be surprised at how often that stuff has cropped up in my life.

Reagan must have been well into his Alzheimers when he signed his last name first on that bill in 1986. Saw a news program of him about him about that time where a reporter asked him a question, in the Rose Garden. He was totally silent and you could hear Nancy say, under her breath, "We're working on it." He then repeated the same thing. Very scary.
