A couple of rules about Pat:

1) He ALWAYS apologizes the next day, sometimes on the same day, if it's real real bad and it's clear to him that his revenue stream is in danger. This is like a dog that constantly pees on the rug. You know the dog is sorry, so you forgive the dog, and the moment you do, it interprets your forgiveness as permission to do it again. The difference is, eventually the dog might learn NOT to pee on the rug.
With Pat, seeking forgiveness gives him license to wait till the next great tragedy and another opportunity for him to sink his fangs into the bodies of the suffering.

2) Pat will sometimes forget stark historical realities.
No, wait a minute, I must be insane for thinking that.
In order for that logic to work vis a vis his latest attack,
(the deal with the devil to be rid of the French thing)he would want us to believe that French rule was benign, either that or that French slavery was "God's work", or he's counting on all of us to be so damned ignorant that we don't realize that the Haitians were SLAVES who, like most good God fearing people, yearned to be FREE.

Yes, that's it, he's counting on our ignorance.

But after all, it's OUR ignorance that constitutes the reason he still gets enough money to maintain his media pulpit.

Here is what Robertson said:


"Something happened a long time ago in Haiti, and people might not want to talk about it, They were under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon III, or whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, we will serve you if you'll get us free from the French. True story. And so, the devil said, okay it's a deal.

"Ever since, they have been cursed by one thing after the other.

"That island of Hispaniola is one island. It is cut down the middle; on the one side is Haiti on the other is the Dominican Republic, Dominican Republic is prosperous, healthy, full of resorts, etc. Haiti is in desperate poverty. Same island. They need to have and we need to pray for them a great turning to god and out of this tragedy I'm optimistic something good may come. But right now we are helping the suffering people and the suffering is unimaginable."


To be fair, one can infer that he attributed the earthquake to the "pact to the Devil". But, he didn't say that. He said that Haiti's problems of poverty have followed that "pact". And, that his organization is going to be providing aid to Haiti.

But, he is still bats*** crazy. To say that the Haitian slaves, 200 years ago (under Napoleon Bonarparte, not Napoleon III), made a pact with the devil (a couple of voodoo priests sacrificed a pig which inspired/incited the slave population to revolt) and that it's a "true story" makes me wonder if Robertson himself isn't the Devil. How else would he know?

Thx for making the effort to exactly clarify what Robertson said. As you say, there is a little wiggle room in evaluating Robertson's intentions.

Although, it seems somewhat clear that he makes the inference that one can look at the suffering and poverty on one side of the island (Haiti) ... and from the comparison with the other side (Dominican Republic) draw the conclusion that Haiti has been cursed... and therefore that they are not under God's protection... and therefore there must have been a pact with the devil for God to turn his back... other wise they would be much better off like the Dominican Republic.

I am not sure how one can look at what he said and not draw the conclusion that God blesses those he likes with prosperity... and that therefore prosperity is somehow indicative of God's blessing?

The seems seriously divergent from Jesus' teaching that the meek would inherit the earth.

Inferred that Pat's God is one who goes to great lengths to curse entire nations unto untold generations for something a primal generation did.

Is it true that a nation can be blessed or cursed for many generations, that an entire people, even the good and just, pay the price for the sins of the fathers?

I say YES, it IS true, except for one thing.
It's not God who does the blessing and cursing, it is the fellow human beings.

This notion of a God who bestows punishment unto innocent generations is one of those biblical beliefs that I find difficult both to parse and to support.
Such a God is evil, and I would want no part of Him were it to be true.

It's like saying that there are lives which are not sacred, this cursing of future generations. A God such as that should have no trouble with widespread full term abortions by the same logic, thus streamlining his wicked desire to punish generation after generation by killing them in their first breathing moments on Earth.

Why not? They must PAY the sins of the fathers!

I am amazed that Pat has such direct knowledge of what God says and in this case what the Devil said. He must have Verizon and not ATT cause most of those calls would have been dropped if so.

Would that be 1G service?

Perhaps that's why America, once the great prosperous Nation, is now thrown into an economic downward spiral all due to Dick Cheney’s pack with the Devil to get the oil out of the sand.

Let us pray for the future generations of Americans who will suffer centuries of poverty by the hand of this pact.

Good point. How else would he know if he were not the Lord of Darkness himself? Not even Dick Cheney claims to know what the Devil has in mind; although I am certain that Dick Cheney has made a few pacts with the Devil.
