It's funny, there was an issue recently and I am trying to remember who it was, but there was a Senator or Representative who was blathering on about how something - I think it was Judge Vaughn's decision - violated the 10th Amendment, completely ignoring the existence of the 9th Amendment's proscription that: "The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people."
I'm wondering, does all of the huffing about the mosque constitute "soft" bigotry, or is it the old-fashioned "hard" bigotry kind?

I just wonder what all these anti-mosque/muslim people will do once the new office building is built on the Trade Center site. Are they going to investigate all the companies looking for space to make sure there are no muslim investors? Are they going to insist on strict no muslim corporation rules? Are they going to try to force all the companies renting space to not hire any Muslims? You know, because if a devout muslim is working there he(or she) might want to use a break period to engage in prayer? Cause, let's face it, if a muslim community center two blocks away is so horrid, muslims approaching the actual site must be worse(/sarcasm). Once again the lawyers are trying to rule the day through a heavy dose of legalsleze, when in fact it should be the people of NY who have the final say. Let's suppose somebody wanted to establish a temple to Talula - The Goddess of Exotic Dancing in the vacant lot next door to your house? This temple would be potentially less dangerous than a mosque could be and the client base would probably be better dressed. By your argument the constitutional rights of a very small group of people trump the constitutional rights of the vast majority. And the solution you offer is to cater to the vast minority in the name of political correctness. So, let me know where I can build my gentleman's club in your neighborhood. Ma, I'm a lesbian atheist, I have no qualms whatsoever with a "gentleman's club". I also live 10 minutes from the gates of Ft. Leonard Wood, Army training base, so any new facility would have to be able to compete (and probably bribe their way in - I've heard rumors). Plus, it would give the Bible-belt "for the children" crowd a juicy new target to aim at. When it comes to opposing business activities, they usually lose, but they keep on trying. But, that's not really the point, is it? Too many people are willing to ignore the constitutional rights of minority groups because they don't like the group in question. Building a muslim community center does not, in any way, infringe on the constitutional rights of others. Preventing the building of a community center "because it is muslim" DOES infringe on the constitutional rights of the muslim group in question. That is wrong, period, full stop.

I just find it interesting that it has been impossible for an existing church to be rebuilt, but a new church from a much more PC cause get approval.  ...because Catholic Churches are not being built within blocks of an elementary or middle school any longer - for obvious reasons... Hellooooo....   I was being a rebel-rouser with my allusion to Catholic priest pedophilia.

Not so funny is the Fox cretin who openly stated Mosque Muslims should "give up" their 1st Amendment rights. I think this proves my point that conservatives (and I am not talking about real conservatives but am about the nuts who pass themselves off as conservatives when they should be calling themselves nuts) do not condone nor support the Constitution.

I think this proves my point that conservatives (and I am not talking about real conservatives but am about the nuts who pass themselves off as conservatives when they should be calling themselves nuts) do not condone nor support the Constitution. I have defined such folk as a part of the modern conservative movement, having little in common with conservatives of yesteryear. They are quick to follow the drumbeat of the cadre of neoconservatives who function much like the Bolsheviks of another era and ideology. But, it is good to keep in mind that neither Mod Libs nor Mod Cons give a chit about rights or even the Constitution unless it furthers their political agenda.;-) Yours, Issodhos
