Maybe the auditor's report that GM is toast? You know, the stock market is of interest to some people, but the vast majority are interested only because their pension managers speculated with their money in the market.
I have no desire to continue to run out public policy based upon the market. This nation does not exist to make investors happy or wealthy. I hope the addiction to the stock market gets thoroughly bashed now so that people will see how stupid it is to invest in it.
Now I suppose it is the President's fault the GM is a failed corporate state, but I suggest it might be bad decisions for many decades by the board and managers of GM

An excellent argument, Ponderer, and very much appreciated. I have been pointing out in several unseemly and sometimes less than kind ways that this downward trending stock market began under Republican Lack of Leadership and will end under Democratic Leadership. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we see it drop below 5000 for a time.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if we see it drop below 5000 for a time. "If" it does - then's the time to buy. I'm seriously thinking about buying AIG, Citibank, and Ford stock. Now these are my kinda "buy" prices! AIG = .32/share Citibank = .99/share Ford = 1.50/share I've never bought a GM car - my folks have - my bro and I are Ford guys...

This nation does not exist to make investors happy or wealthy. Are you sure about that, Phil?

Let's change the name from the Dow to the Obama daily tracking poll. We could also call it the Republican Popularity Index

Let's change the name from the Dow to the Obama dialy tracking poll. Okay, Ma...the Obama dialy tracking poll it is. The whole world clings to Obama's every move, his every breathe, his every decision that is being made...that is obviously crashing the market. Afterall, the minute Obama took office, the 20, or really 30 years of previous government mismanagement, abuse, and corruption was infused into his bloodstream making all of the polticial, financial, and economic problems innately his. All of our financial and market woes are his fault by election. I dig it...I hear what you're saying. Or...are you saying that he just doesn't know what the hell he's doing to pull a rabbit out of the hat and undo all of the years of damage? It wouldn't have mattered if Jesus was president...there's no agreeable solution, apparently. I certainly have a lot of problems with the T.A.R.P and the simulus B.S. But, in my opinion, there's not a credible human being in government that even comes close to knowing what to do. Our problems derive from all those in Washington (Democrat and Republican) who have, for eons, proclaimed themselves as ruler of humanity...who innately knows what is best for everybody else on the planet. There's no need for debate, discussions, multi-sector solutions. The last thing these folks need is for their indentured servants trying to intervene by voicing concerns over their own welfare. We have a "my way or the highway" government that is continuing to sink the ship...despite the fact that they are navigating it.

The nation's economic health does not equal the gyrations of the stock market. Investors have interests largely inimical to the well being of the general public. They must be regulated and watched carefully lest they do again what they have done in the past. We are fools to treat them as more than snakes in the grass.
