Fiscal conservatism might say don't incur these debts, but that horse left the barn years ago.
And in the in interest of partisan bickering I will point out that the lions share of the debt we now owe belongs to the Republican Party. The "fiscal conservatives" whose chosen leader expanded government and the national debt at an unprecedented rate. Now they cry foul when the necessary funds are raised to pay the bills. I don't argue that Democrats and Republicans all are responsible for this mess. I merely point out that congress was controlled for 12 years by republicans and the executive branch for eight. The opposition was shoved down, ignored and practically called treasonous for any disagreement they may have had with the seemingly unstoppable president Bush and the Congress that supported him in every money grab and power grab that he made. As you are well aware, Ma, the show is on the other foot now. The Democrats would choose to spend the money on helping Americans live rather than helping Iraqis die.
