Yall seem to know a lot more about this Ms. Roberts than I do. Is she an actress? A model? All I ever heard about her was a long time ago when she married Lyle Lovett. Ms. Roberts married Mr. Lovett, for a brief time, in the 1990s. She a very good actress, and at one time, commanded the top pay for a female actress at the time. She married a camera man from one of her more recent movies and she has two or three kids by him. The kids have weird names like Hazel and Finnias.

Yeah, I cried. I think it touches people because everyone has, at times, felt unattractive and been afraid of what others think.
And everyone has, at times, judged others by their looks. Whether those judgments were made on TV in front of millions, or were just passing thoughts, makes no difference.
Susan Boyle went out on that stage and demonstrated the real meaning of beauty. Not just with her incredible voice, but with her enthusiasm and excitement...and by throwing kisses to the people who had initially ridiculed her...when she could have given them the finger.

I should clarify: I'm not being Miss-Holier-Than-Thou. We do all do it and 'we' is understood to include 'me.' I understand the reaction; it was the strength and the extremity of it that I found to be so bizarre.

Guess what? Here's ANOTHER sensational song sung by Susan Boyle, in 1999, for a charity CD, of which only a thousand copies were produced.

Wow...granted that's 10 years, but it doesn't sound like her. Could well be, but this has the feeling of a story tweaked by intertube imagination. (For one thing, it's fully orchestrated. On a charity CD? In West Lothian?)
I can't believe that's been out there for 10 years and she hasn't been performing, if nothing else, as a wedding singer!
I hope it IS her; it just strikes me as odd. I'm getting too cynical in my old age.

The formation of words is just too different. Definite midwestern vowels; sounds I listened to most of my life. If this is the same voice, I will be floored.

I agree. I don't think it's her.

and by throwing kisses to the people who had initially ridiculed her...when she could have given them the finger. I re-watched the clip more carefully. I didn't see/hear excessive rudeness beforehand. (I'm guessing audience shots for these types of videos aren't necessarily in real time...that they can be cut and pasted.) Afterwards, the judges were being honest, which I kind of have to give them credit for.

Well, if you consider Simon's self-parody honesty!

I guess the entire show is mostly planned to be as it is. They were actively searching for a person like this, and presented her like Speilberg presented the shark in jaws. I am sure they had camera's looking for cynical audience members... and would have filled in as necessary to get the proper effect.
The whole art is to make it all look like live theater, when in fact it is as planned as a magician's trick.
I enjoyed to watch it too. But it is what it is.
