1939 - Public Television began. President Franklin D. Roosevelt became the first chief executive to appear on TV.

1975 - Saigon -- and all of Vietnam -- fell into communist hands this day, the unofficial end of the Vietnam War.
COINCIDENCE? I think NOT!

I don't believe in an afterlife, so I don't have to spend my whole life fearing hell, or fearing heaven even more. For whatever the tortures of hell, I think the boredom of heaven would be even worse.

"I hope I live to see the day when, as in the early days of our country, we won't have any public schools. The churches will have taken them over again and Christians will be running them. What a happy day that will be!"

From the Church of Ineffable Stupidity:

a) Jane Harman
It was bad enough that she was caught conspiring with an Israeli spy. Then she had to turn around and hire Lanny Davis as her press spokesman.

Now, she issues a press release about her press spokesman:
Quote
HARMAN STATEMENT ON LANNY DAVIS
Washington, DC - Rep. Jane Harman (D-CA) issued the following statement:

"My day job, road races and family leave me too little time to feed the insatiable beast (the press). Lanny is an old and trusted friend who has expertise in getting the facts out."

A press release explaining the presence of her new press spokesman and his future role? Isn't that his job? Jane, Jane, Jane.

In unrelated news, the NRA named a 12 yr old texas girl as its new poster child. "She has incredible aim, and hits exactly what she aims for. Plus, she's such a cute kid!" gushed the NRA spokesman.

c) One News Now cracks up, becomes catatonic over Sam Brownback
America rejoiced today, learning that the ultra-conservative dissembling organization known as One News Now lost its collective mind, irate that one of its christian senators sold his soul to the devil.

Brownback made the mortal sin of approving of Gov. Kathy Sebelius as HHS chief. Brownback also expressed an interest in replacing her as governor.
Quote
Senator Brownback (R-Kansas) joined home-state colleague Pat Roberts and seven other Republicans Tuesday to help Kathleen Sebelius win approval (65-31) to serve as HHS secretary. The nomination of the Kansas governor -- which Brownback has supported since it was announced almost two months ago -- was controversial because of her failure to pay taxes and her lack of honesty regarding the large sum of campaign donations she received from notorious Kansas abortionist George Tiller.

Wichita pastor Terry Fox, a longtime friend and supporter of Senator Brownback, says the word "disappointment" would not be strong enough to describe his reaction to Brownback's actions. Pastor Fox says members of his Wichita church have made hundreds of phone calls to Brownback's office, but the senator "doesn't care what conservative Christians think" on this matter.

"The part of the body of Christ that I'm a part of feels that we've been betrayed by Sam Brownback," says Fox. "Pat Roberts has disappointed us before, and we know him some; but really, Sam Brownback has been a huge disappointment. And I would say [that] we must, we must hold Sam Brownback accountable for this vote."

You have to love the buffoons at One News. Their ultra-conservative, christian prism thru which they view the whole world, is so narrow, that an electron microscope can determine its width with great difficulty.

The one redeeming quality about One News is whenever they complain or have their heads explode, you can be sure that the news is pretty good for the rest of the country.

d) Miss California
If IQs were measured in terms of wattage, Carrie Prejean would give a burned out refrigerator light a run for its money. Having lost the Ms. USA contest, she used her preference for "opposite marriage" to start a new career. She is now on a campaign to protect marriage.

As for her tits? Yeah, they are fake. In fact, the Miss California committee paid for her implants a few weeks before the competition. I guess she has two things going for her, and brains is not one of them.
Quote
Prejean said on NBC’s Today (video below) that marriage is an issue “very dear to my heart” and said she’s surprised by the uproar surrounding her remarks. “I never thought in a million years that this would be happening.”

Speaking of things close to one’s heart, the Miss California organization has confirmed that it paid for the 21-year-old Prejean to receive breast implants weeks before the national pageant.

Ms. Prejean, you should have phrased it this way: "I never thought!" It would be far more accurate.

"There was never a good war or a bad peace."
