Not sure if anyone is following what's going on today and yesterday, but it's pretty momentous. HuffPo has great coverage and is getting a lot of twitter feeds. Here's an incredible video that has been sent...the motorcycle cops drive right into the crowd. Then, apparently, the crowd turns on them. At the end, a group in the crowd has rescued one of the cops. Protest in Tehran

Andrew Sullivan Hes been keeping an eye on this since well before the election. some good coverage, some contradictory stuff as ever, as he's bloggin as news comes in. He's sometimes prone to letting his judgement slip a bit in the ehthusiasm of a moment.

Since I started the thread earlier today, I have spoken with a good friend in Tehran as well as my major professor whose wife has family there. Apparently it is quite scary there. HuffPo seems to have the most up-to-date coverage.

not a hell of a lot on the british tv news about it, and what there is is fairly restrained.

i suspect the msm in both countries are being tame on the request of the powers that be. certainly this is delicate enough that western allies are worried they could screw the pooch. they likely risk alienating the current regime if they make too bold a move, and that would include media coverage.
sure, you can talk to god, but if you don't listen then what's the use? so, onward through the fog!

I agree in terms of the western media, however it appears that there is an iranian media blackout - apart from approved sources. Twitter and youtube seem to be the main conduits of non official info. Its a long shot, but do we have any Farsi speakers here? I cant tell from the reports that Ive read the scale of the violence/protests. I suspect the scale is quite large. Theres a march/demonstration in Tehran by Mousavi supporters planned for 4pm today Iranian time. Apparently protests in other cities are also planned. If its huge, i fear that there will be some kind of civil war in Iran. If the masses of the people are attempting a velvet revolution, there will be blood. Some reports are stating that the regime has imported foreign fighters to beat down the protests, and that the army has declared itself neutral. I wonder how the iranian soldiers will feel if/when news arrives of the violence.

Iranian protesters call off rally Iran's defeated moderate candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi has cancelled a big rally amid unrest over President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's re-election.
The interior ministry had declared planned protests to be illegal.
The BBC understands that Mr Mousavi called off the rally after being warned that militias policing it would be equipped with live rounds.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei orders inquiry into vote-rigging claims in Iranian poll Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has ordered an investigation into claims of vote-rigging and fraud in last week's presidential election, Iranian state TV reported today.
The report said Khamenei had told the guardian council, the clerical body that oversees elections, to examine the pro-reform candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi's claims of widespread rigging in Friday's poll.
