Agreed, yet again. Come on, y'all, kids don't get to choose their parents.

The joke was tasteless and offensive....no matter who the kid's parent happens to be. The people who think "hehe, it's Palin, who cares?" are wrong...plain and simple.
And I believe that those same people would be throwing fits if the same type of joke had been made about either of the Obama girls, so they are rank hypocrites, as well.

"Letterman's slur was simply another reminder of the coarsening of societal discourse and conduct,"
Both spot-on and succinctly stated issodhos...!
Your thoughts on this issue as expressed above represents the "core rot" that our society is experiencing at all levels.
Nothing is too outrageous nor seemingly is anyone outraged enough to say enough is enough!
Even if Willow was 18 or older, still living in the Palin household or on her own; does she deserve such attacks on behalf of the likes of Letterman & company who simply pander for ratings and high dollar, evidently indiscriminate sponsorship!
We're surely failing as a nation, and it's episodes such as this that exposes us for what we've become; ie., "The Empire of the Rising Scum"...! : |

I have no time for Sarah Palin but if it had happened to my minor kid, I'd have yelped too. I'm not saying she was in the right - I haven't listened to it and don't intend to - but she has a valid reason to be publicly irked. The ladies on The View agree with you, Mellow,

I think the reason behind the joke is that Sarah promotes or signed legislation that abstinance is taught in Alaska schools, yet her own daughter gets preggers - at 17 years old.
It's the situational irony that makes Sarah and her family's choices that becomes fodder.
...besides as we ALL know - abstinence doesn't work - yet Bristol is making the TV rounds preaching 'abstinence', with baby in tow, and Govenor Palin still believes that 'abstinence' works!
This background information is as "they" say in TV Land, the set-up for the joke...

It doesn't matter to me which daughter it was aimed at even if it was a 25 year old daughter living away from home. It was disgusting.
I too think Sarah and the Republican party used sexual innuendo (read family values in this case) to influence the American people and I know that makes it seem that her children should be natural targets but it frankly creeps me out. I've felt dreadfully sorry for poor Bristol for a while now.
Yes it would make me mad too but in addition if it were my family that was taking that kind of abuse, I'd get out of the public spotlight and take them with me.

I'd get out of the public spotlight and take them with me. That's just it, once you get into the limelight, you're a target. Sarah choose this path for her family once she signed onto big-time politics. Previously to last summer - no one heard of The Palins - or cared about them here in the lower forty-eight. Furthermore, Sarah is perpetuating this "fight" by going around doing all of the talkshows airing her disgust... - or - ...is she really keeping her name 'out there' for the 2012 Presidential run?
