The phrases on the streets of Tehran are: Marg bar diktator! and Marg bar Khamenei! That means "death to the dictator" and "death to Khamenei" The first martyrs of the new Green Revolution have already fallen. Here is very graphic video of the death of "Neda", a teenage girl who was watching the protests at the side of her father. The march was taking place almost a kilometer away but that did not stop Basij snipers from firing at the crowd below, and one bullet found its way to her heart. She bled to death moments later...the video is heartbreaking to watch especially because her last glance is at the camera. LINK

The fact that Republicans in Congress are criticizing President Obama for not getting more involved in the Iranian election tells me they are either:
1) Totally ignorant to the Iranian feelings about the US getting involved in their elections and/or regime changes. (NOBODY in Iran has forgotten about the US-sponsered coup and installation of the much-hated Shah.)
2) Pissed that Obama refuses to "hug that tar baby", so they could make even more out of the inevitable fiasco if he did.
Iranian political reality 101: Any side "supported" by a US President would be doomed, just by his support.

It's ironic that Christian Conservatives are upset with President Obama's and Hillary Clinton's neutral stance to what is happening in Iran.
These conservatives do not understand that the "progressive candidate" Mousavi is only "progessive" in that he only really, really, really doesn't like the United States; whereas, Ahmadinejad actually hates the United States.
...and never mind that Iran border Iraq and Afghanistan where our military is already stretched thin. To the Christian Conservative, President Obama needs to beat the war drum that former President Bush did - I guess it brings us closer to Armageddon and the second coming if that were to happen.
Praise the Lord.
To me, it's a wash: Either Iran has a President that really, really, really doesn't like the United States, or a President that actually hates the United States.

The fact that Republicans in Congress are critisizing President Obama for not getting more involved in the Iranian election tells me they are either: Probably a combination of posturing for their constituents and general stupidity -- or worse. Yours, Issodhos

This is what freedom costs in Iran: be careful that youre not projecting your own hopes and desires into the situation in Iran. Nobody is quite sure exactly what the people are struggling for. It doesnt appear at this stage that it is a destruction of their current political system - whatever about the personalities who have currently floated to the surface. it appears that what they want is a more democratic islamic republic and not say, California where this will end up nobody knows, least of all the supposed experts who didnt see it coming but who pontificate with such confidence. if the bloodshed continues and escalates, it like likley wash it all away in a wave of blood. as with every bloody revolution, what may result could possibly be worse.
"The basic tool for the manipulation of reality is the manipulation of words. If you can control the meaning of words, you can control the people who must use the words." (Philip K.Dick)

Everybody seems to think that what is going on in Iran is some kind of revolution against their government - it is not. What we have been witnessing is a dispute between the religious factions. One represented by the Supreme Leader and the other by an opposing group. In other words this just may be the start of a religious war!
Its also pretty much agreed that no matter which side wins that does not mean that we have pals in the government of Iran. Another thing to remember is that the Iran population majority is under 35 years old! They are, I suspect, simply sick and tired of a bunch of wild eyed religious extremists controlling their every action. Remember too that they actually have competing authorities in virtually every area. An interesting one, I think, is that they have the army and then they have the Revolutionary guard, one not religious, one very.
