I don't think it is fair to suggest his wife had something illicit going on, based on absolutely no evidence other than her not knowing where he was and apparently not caring much.

It has come out now that she has known he had a girlfriend for several years. Her attitude probably just relects that. Like many women in that situation, she has just been doing the best she can for her children and herself. Don't try to shift the blame to her.

Mrs. Sanford has let it be known that she asked Governor sanford tom leave the home two weeks ago. So she knew-but I don't think she indulged in the hanky-panky. I deel very sorry for her and those kids.

I interpreted the - not caring much - as something more meaningful than simply looking the other way. Looking the other way never occurred to me - because it's not something I'd do if my man cheated - there'd be hell to pay - big time. If I were the li'l mister, I'd gone straight to the media, ruined his chances for President, and gladly accepted spousal support. I don't take crap from my men. The worst thing you can do to a guy, besides cutting off his junk, is hitting him in the wallet. Men hate paying out to their ex's.

I wasn't trying to shift blame, I just noted her response, prior to it being revealed that the good governor has had this affair going on for years.

Why do women stay with men like this? Is it because they've grown accustomed to their living standards and just look the other way to keep the status quo?

Do women look the other way when they are financially dependent upon a man?

I so don't buy that crap that men can't be monogamous or that men are genetically not capable of being monogamous. Bull puckie!

Men are bascially just selfish pigs - when it comes to sex.

...but then, it's a two-way street: One needs to keep attractive and keep the relationship going and fresh as well.

Relationships are tough and require constant work.

From my observations, most men are very generous when it comes to sex...

As far as I am concerned it is a matter between Sanford and his wife - for the most part. If - and I do not know - he has taken the family values position politically and has at any point used that holier than thou family values bullshìt from the bully pulpit on the campaign trail or in Columbia if I lived in South Carolina I'd have a big problem with it.

If you are going to dip your wick in other candles you have no business taking the public high road. Politicos haven't seemed to figure out that being an elected official is not all for personal gain and benefit. There are sacrifices involved.

If Sanford never set himself up as a paragon of virtue and goodness publicly then I say it's between him and Ms. Sanford and the voters be damned.

It is in and of itself an interesting situation. I have family all over South Carolina. In fact whenever they pushed us off the boat somewhere near Charleston my family began its American experience in South Carolina. I committed carnal sin in the great State of South Carolina on several occasions during my misspent youth. It was no more difficult there than to know a lady biblically than it is anywhere else. Point is, they don't have the market cornered on morality. (I'd like to take this moment to say thank you to Rock Hill, Spartanburg, Ocean Drive, Myrtle Beach and Charleston and almost in Aiken.)

If you understand Southern culture you understand the contradiction between words and actions. You can't buy liquor or beer on Sunday, but everyone, and I mean everyone, knows where the bootleggers are who will sell you any kind of alcohol you want after hours and on Sunday. I understand that. So do the good folks in South Carolina. And it is OK in the South for a politician to be "known" to have a roving eye, but it is NOT OK for the sumbitch to the subject of national press while doing it. That isn't acceptable.

Sanford is the governor of a very conservative Southern state. South Carolina is the home of Bob "By God" Jones University with pink sidewalks for girls and blue sidewalks for boy. It'll be interesting to see how the state responds.

With all the horndog politicos coming out of the bushes in the Republican Party - it doesn't seem like it will ever stop - the Republican Christiban has a real problem. They can stick it out with the GOP (pun intended) or they can leave the party. LOL!

It is a hell of a dilemma for Christian Conservatives. There of course is the third option, which they may take. Look for Christiban Mullahs like the Osamas bin Falwell, Robertson and Dobson to tell the flock - and I do mean sheep - that if a "good man" in office has strayed and has given into da debil he is but a mortal, and as long as he asks his wife, he family and his God for forgiveness he is excused and can zip up and go about his business of bringing Amurica closer to Gawd. Can I get a A-men?

My rebuttal to that is that if Gawd really loved South Carolina Steve Spurrier would have won an SEC championship in Columbia long, long ago.

Politicians don't have private lives. The li'l Mrs signed onto a non-private life when she, most likely, supported her husband's desire for public office.

Ok...I'll soften my stance a bit, political men are pigs. wink Oh who am I trying to kid? Men are sexual pigs.
