Especially now that it's been revealed that Gov. Sanford saw the other woman in Argentina on the tax-payers' dime... What people do in their private lives should be just between the people and families involved, whether they are politicians or anything else. UNLESS, it affects others. Here, I think the worst thing about this whole sordid mess is his sneaking off for a planned ten days without turning over the powers of the governorship. What if a hurricane had hit? Who would call out the National Guard? Other scenarios can easily be imagined but no governor to take charge. The S.C. Legislature should impeach him for dereliction of duty if it's possible to do so in S.C. The second worst thing was using taxpayer money. Another article of impeachment?

It's all there, a great comedy.
I can see his travel reimbursement form:
Date: June, 5, 6, 7 2006 Location: A wind swept somewhere, Argentina. Purpose of trip: Getting my love tank filled; acting like a f*cking moron.

It would seem to me that he has acted in ways that would be grounds for dismissal if done by, say, a janitor working in the state capital building. He did not show up for work for several consecutive days, did not call in and explain why, and, being someone who was supposed to be on call 24/7, he made it still made it impossible to be contacted. He should be told resignation is not an option because he is fired -- or will be as soon as impeachment proceeding can be concluded. Yours, Issodhos

He should be told resignation is not an option because he is fired I second that notion. The good ole boys are likely nodding and winking at each other and privately congratulating him for his conquest, though, so I'd be more expecting it to be quietly swept under the rug and forgotten in the political world. Hopefully his wife will dismiss him from his position in the household and free him up for more taxpayer subsidized trysts.

Really?? Fired for not showing up to work for a few days? Seems harsh punishment when you consider the janitor's absence would actually have an impact whereas obviously the governor's didn't.
It is interesting to me that the focus is on his disappearance, use of state funds, etc, rather than on his blatant hypocrisy. I think if every hypocritical politician, every one who failed to perform his or her duties, every one who misused government funds, were asked to resign or be subject of impeachment, we would finally have the clean slate we disingenuously ask for here.
Could it be that we the voters are the hypocrites?

About an hour after Jenny Sanford talked of her pain and feelings of betrayal, her husband brushed aside any suggestion he might immediately resign, citing the Bible and the story of King David — who continued to lead after sleeping with another man's wife, Bathsheba, having the husband slain, then marrying the widow. APNice to know that Mark Sanford gets his inner strength from a Bible story of pre-meditated murder, lust, and selfishness. Praise The Lord! Sign me up for Bible study.

Could it be that we the voters are the hypocrites? ...or worse, can relate to Mark Sanford's struggle to keep his hottie South American lover in spite of being married with children? Oh the family values just ooze from Mark and his appeasers.

When I lived in Florida I dated and damn near fell in love with a Columbiana. Sultry can't describe her. She lived in Florida part of the year and Columbia the other part. I all but had my ticket booked for Columbia when my big head gained the lead momentarily over my little head and said, "Mickey, are you insane? Would you live in Columbia?" This was in the early 80s and not a good time for a Yankee to be hanging in out in Columbia. I called it off before I started writing goofy feckin love letters like a moron in junior high school. But I do understand the attraction. I understand the allure. Latinas! But Governor Sanford is married, at least for now.
