In this Colony, it is as Schlack wrote: only malt vinegar on the french fries!

Schlack is right. I don't remember, but I believe that it was bottles of malt vinegar on the table at the eatery that I frequented.

Was it a short-lived chain called Alfie's? Huntsville had one when I moved here.

I thought it was thousand island dressing on a Big Mac--but it's not pink, now that I think of it.

We used to have Alfie's Fish & Chips in San Diego, but "H. Salt, Esq." was even better. They were almost as good as the fish & chips shop I practically lived at when I was in Dublin on business for 2 weeks. My absolute favorite was a chain place called "Joey's Only" that closed down. (They still are in business elsewhere.) Now all we have in the way of fish fast food chains is Long John Silver's. sick No thanks!

I get my fish & chips at a little Irish Pub the next town over, with Malt Vinegar on both.

Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips!
That was my first experience with malt vinegar and batter fried fish.
There's an Irish Pub over in Epcot called Raglan Road built over there and moved here, that does fish and chips just right! Guiness and Smithwicks and more on tap. Live music and a lovely Irish lass dancing on the table. Hmmm......I think it's soon gonna be time to head over that way again.

All this talk of Fish and Chips and Guinness has me thinking of the two weeks I spent in London many, many years ago eating pretty much nothing but, on alternating days, fish and chips or steak and kidney pies, from a local shop in the neighborhood of my hostel. Whichever I ordered, it came wrapped in newspaper. Probably lead-based ink back then too. And fully agree; never ketchup, only vinegar! Have never seen a steak and kidney pie since I left town!

Logan, I make a pretty fair Steak and Kidney pie, You can't always trust the kidneys you get here though, sometimes you just can't get the pissy smell out of them so they go to the dogs and you get a Steak Pie instead. Mutton Pie is my favorite though! The UK and Ireland have some wonderful traditional recipes.

PIA, Raglan Road is in the Disney Complex, they probably don't have traditional Irish Music and Dancers in the Dublin Pubs

No, it wasn't. I thought that it was a good idea. I'll guess that he was under capitalized. I believe that he could have made a success of it, because the food was good and reasonably priced. I had stopped in at the various national fish & chips/fish franchises, and, for the most part, didn't think too much of them, even though I didn't have what you would describe as a discriminating palate at the time.

MYSTERY SAUCE! Like the mystery meat they served under gobs of goo in school. I believe that they use the same base, and just add pickles. I'm very fond of pickles.

You may like Tiger Sauce. I use it on scrambled eggs, bean soup, meat, fish, chicken, etc. If your store has it, you should be able to find it with the hot pepper sauces. For some reason, the price has almost doubled within the last year. I like it.
