Grilled fish for breakfast is very common in Japan. We had it often when staying at ryokans, along with salad and the ubiquitous rice. I became quite fond of fish for breakfast.

Don't forget the pickled vegetables, an ubiquitous accompaniment to a Japanese breakfast!
Also, what about the kippers that are so common in English breakfasts?
I think it is curious that no other meal seems to vary so much from culture to culture as breakfast! In the other meals of the day there are usually some things which are familiar, but breakfasts really do vary wildly!
Think of the horror of having ketchup as an accompaniment to breakfast!
