Oh, dear, oh dear! Your first paragraph might have been taken straight out of a British propaganda movie of the 1930's or 40's!

However, there is more than a little truth in your second paragraph. I think that if direct colonial administrations had hung on in Africa into our own times, Africa and its peoples would be in much better shape than they are today.

The only people in Africa who have benefited by "freedom" are a bunch of tin-pot native despots who have bled their peoples dry --- ably helped mainly by the USA, but also by the neo-colonialism of European financial interests.

Anyway, the British did not wreck the world --- they just tore apart human cultures and civilizations. Being the main actor in wrecking the world is reserved to the United States as its historic "glory" through its ecologically-unfriendly activities.
