Good for him, he can use the $1M in his retirement. I really must bring up the fact that Yasser Arafat, Kofi Anon, Mohamed ElBaradei, Al Gore and Jimmy Carter also won the prize.

Used to be a honor to win, and well desered. Now, it is just a political statement. But I am really happy for him.

Oh goody! Another speech to look forward to. Is there a prize awarded for speechifying; I mean apart from getting elected?

Since when does he rate the Nobel Peace Prize? He' planning on escalating the afghan business. And Iraq isn't over yet. Apparently, they voted Feb 1st, after he's been in office for two weeks. What's the deal?

Are you guys just jealous because Bush didn't win one? Or his Dad?
or Reagan? or Nixon? or.....I suppose it will become an honour again when Republicans buy themselves a Nobel Prize.

Actually, Allen, February 1st was the deadline for nominations. There were more than 200 nominations. Voting was more recent.

The Nobel Prize for Diplomacy, or whatever catagory this falls under, was devalued the day that Yasser Arafat recieved it and nothing that has transpired since has changed that.

This is not a swipe at Obama, it is indicative of what the prize has become.

Yassar Arafat was responsible for thousands upon thousands of murders and after he recieved the prize he refused to agree with a peace treaty because of politics, proving that the effort was a farce.

Jimmy Carter was given his prize as a swipe at GW Bush, and nothing more.

Al Gore? Nothing more need be said.

Kofi Anon was linked to a bribary investigation during the Iraq run up. I believe his nephew (son?) was indicted on taking bribes from Iraq circumventing the embargo that was applied to Iraqi oil by the UN.

Look, I am really happy for him. It is the only foreign poicy success his administration has had and it will foster good will for the US throughout the world. As an accomplishment, I am skeptical, but overall it is a good thing and he deserves congrats!

I don't see how a man who is planning on killing more people in a country where even the military says Al Qaeda isn't even present anymore SOURCE can rate a peace prize. and so soon after taking office. I dont think Bush or Obama deserve anything like a peace prize. Bush deserved impeachment for fibbing us into a war and Obama does the same if he continues to prosecute said war(s)
