ACK! I'm cut to the very heart! He's no hero of mine, Tim. Though indeed I hope he does a better job than the previous occupier of his desk, the Hero and Messiah to all Conservatives everywhere George Walker Bush.(okay, maybe that's an exageration) Do you want to know if I think he deserves a Nobel Prize? Frankly I don't. I agree with Schlack that he got the nomination and prize because he is not George Bush. The entire world was sick to death of the self righteous buffoonery that has issued forth from Washington over the last eight years I believe that this is really a prize given to the American Voters for Not selecting another Republican Buffoon and her ancient running mate John Sydney McCain.(that would be the one you voted for) The whole world is now laughing at the self righteous buffoonery issuing from The Republican Faction and Hoping against Hope, that they will not prevail. I have no such hopes and like yourself expect president Obama to be a one term President and that you and your party will succeed in winning the next presidential election and finish up the job George Bush started of driving a stake through the heart of America.
I can find better heroes than skinny, colored, politicians.

I think Allen Owen has stumbled on something; good catch. ThumbsUp

I agree with the article.

The Nobel prize reminds me of another one that was awarded some 38 years ago, to a person, who, at the time had few accomplishments and fewer measurable contributions towards peace. Perhaps some may still remember Willy Brandt. I recall, since at the time I was daily on-call to go to Germany.

To those who expect that Obama would have to sweep down and somehow bring world peace before earning the prize, be reminded that it is some time since a sitting president has walked a thin line, and taken the high road in an incredibly complex world situation, with some hope of a future without war.

To the matter of hero worship... no! I despise the implicit quid pro quo between government and the elite and the powerful, though I cannot even envision a president at constant swordspoint with congress and the Washington establishment.

We have a very long way to go, but back to the initial subject of this thread... As the criticisms mount, how would Doug, or any of our naysayers see a better outcome on those subjects that have been so criticized. What kind of congressional support and how?

I am angry about many of the appointments... Paulson, Bernancke, Geithner et al, but can only wonder what alternatives might have passed through the system. I respect Ron Paul, but he would be a totally ineffective president.

And so, is it better to light one candle, than to curse the darkness?

Ron Paul would be ineffective as president because both parties (particularly the GOP) would block every move he made. He gets treated better by the Democrats than his own party(barely). That alone tells me how sad and pitiable the GOP has become. And they are getting crazy folks. My father works around a lot of "conservative" good ol boys and they have expressed the desire for someone to do something untoward to the president and his family. When dad expresses his dismay at such a prospect(He lived through the Kennedy assassination), they have to ask, "When did you become so liberal?" He can only say, "I guess the moment the only way to be conservative is to hold the desire for someone to assassinate the president and his entire family". The extremists have taken hold of the debate and will not turn loose of it. I am thinking that if I can stay in school long enough, I may get my PhD and get the heck outta here. Maybe Fred Reed could use a PhDed manservant down Mexico way...
