Ron Paul would be ineffective as president because both parties (particularly the GOP) would block every move he made. He gets treated better by the Democrats than his own party(barely). That alone tells me how sad and pitiable the GOP has become. And they are getting crazy folks. My father works around a lot of "conservative" good ol boys and they have expressed the desire for someone to do something untoward to the president and his family. When dad expresses his dismay at such a prospect(He lived through the Kennedy assassination), they have to ask, "When did you become so liberal?" He can only say, "I guess the moment the only way to be conservative is to hold the desire for someone to assassinate the president and his entire family". The extremists have taken hold of the debate and will not turn loose of it. I am thinking that if I can stay in school long enough, I may get my PhD and get the heck outta here. Maybe Fred Reed could use a PhDed manservant down Mexico way...
