The "Merry Christmas" campaign was initiated by Bill O'Reilly's offense to Macy*s printing "Happy Holidays" on their shopping bags a few seasons ago.
Mr. O'Reilly was incensed that Macy*s took the focus of the "holiday" away from Jesus Christ.
...and as we know that Orthodox Church around the 3rd century moved "Christmas" closer to the Winter Solstice to compete with the Wiccan holiday.
