Pat Robertson has spoken up on the recent quake in Haiti... expressing the opinion that that is th punishment of God.

I think it is fair to characterize Robertson as an influential religious leader. As well, it is fair to describe his comments as despicable.

Robertson is being rightly criticised in the press for his comments. But, what I would really like to see is a few other influential religious leaders speaking up on this issue.

If Robertson's expressed views debase for fundamental tenants of Christianity... that is something that should be stated with out reservation by religious leaders. A failure to speak up on this issue would lead me to question the sincerity of their commitment to the religion that they profess.
