Pat Robertson has spoken up on the recent quake in Haiti... expressing the opinion that that is th punishment of God.
I think it is fair to characterize Robertson as an influential religious leader. As well, it is fair to describe his comments as despicable.
Robertson is being rightly criticised in the press for his comments. But, what I would really like to see is a few other influential religious leaders speaking up on this issue.
If Robertson's expressed views debase for fundamental tenants of Christianity... that is something that should be stated with out reservation by religious leaders. A failure to speak up on this issue would lead me to question the sincerity of their commitment to the religion that they profess.

robertson is nuts, plain and simple. when he ran for prez in the 80s i accompanied a journalist friend of mine to a private fundraiser where we heard him speak to his followers. he outright said if he was prez he wouldn't hesitate to blow the commies up. this guy and the late falwell will take every opportunity to perpetuate their myopic view of xtianity and the sad thing is, people do listen - mostly poor, uneducated people who are easily influenced by fear mongering in the name of religion.

Pat Robertson has spoken up on the recent quake in Haiti... expressing the opinion that that is th punishment of God. I guess they're being punished for that opulent, greedy way of life they've been living and stuff, huh?

Okay, I'm real confused. I thought the god of christianity was a foregiving and loving god; that it was the god of the old testament who was the vengeful and punishing god.
Is robertson a christian or an old testament theologiana Pharisee?

Pat Robertson in no way represents the true teachings of Christ. He is being a mean, hateful person whom I feel very sorry for-being that he is delusional and all.

I have no fondness of Pat Robertson. He claims that, literally, god speaks to him and he serves as a messenger for god. Well, be it as it may, he has the right to say those things, no matter how anybody feels about it. I don't agree with about 99 percent of what he says, but he has the same first amendment rights as I do. However, like the rest of us, he doesn't have the right to be heard or to force others to listen. The devil comment...I personally consider it to be insensitive and cruel. But I didn't find Pat's comment as offensive as Rush Limbaugh's comment, which he said, "We've Already Donated To Haiti, It's Called U.S. Income Tax" Now that is wicked and cold. I would have to guess that Pat must get pretty bored talking with humans. When my son became a teen, I would have been elated if he would have talked to me. I'm not quite sure how I would have personally responded to god talking with me, but I think I have an idea how my family and friends would have responded.

I would feel sorry for him, if he weren't influential. Nutjobs like him end up leading movements like the National Socialist Party.
A well reasoned argument is like a diamond: impervious to corruption and crystal clear - and infinitely rarer.
