We went to the Greek Orthodox church for dinner last night and came home with a couple of leftovers. We'll have tyropitakia(cheese pies), soup, salad, and baklava for dessert.

The lady who cooks for us is making Julia's carbonnade (beef and onions), served over rice.
My husband checked yesterday and our Julia Child is first edition, listing all three authors. Cool. It was a wedding present.

Southwest chicken soup.
It's more like a chili...with chicken, black beans, rice, chili, cumin & more...made in the slow cooker.

One minute ago I just finished a large kale salad. God, I love that stuff.
olive oil massaged into torn (bite sited) kale leaves raw pine nuts diced tomatos avocado a little lemon juice cilantro nut cheese (used like croutons) red pepper flakes
I still eat raw food for the most part. I've been vegan now for, I don't know, 6 months or so. I have to have coffee daily. There's just no way around it. We buy fair trade coffee at Trader Joe's.

It's made from raw nuts. Pecans and/or cashews and other kinds, I suppose. I've never actually made any. I've seen my wife make it. It obviously has other things in it. Hers look like Cheeze-It crackers. At any rate all I know is that she mixes whatever is the recipe in a food processor. Then she spreads it out on a teflon sheet and puts it in the food dryer for hours. I crunch it up and put in it in salads.
Oh, and when she makes a tray or two for me to have for a week she puts course ground hot peppers in the mix. I like it spicey as hell. She makes a less nuclear version for herself.
I've never liked much dairy anything. I cannot stand milk. Never liked it at all. Can't stand to smell it. Ice cream was OK; it's been years. Cheese doesn't rock me. Runny Roquefort, I like. Go figure. Butter is fine on baked potatoes or toast.
My wife, whose grandparents were from France, loves cheese. She'll spend a half a day in a cheese shop in France. No kidding. I'll taste a gooey piece of Roquefort, then I'll get the hell out before the smell of the cheese store overcomes me.

I made meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy, and steamed mixed veggies. Served with bread and butter. Blackberry cobbler with French Vanilla ice cream for dessert.
Scoutgal's Meatloaf
2 lbs grounf beef or turkey 1 egg, beaten 1 cup rolled oats, bread or cracker crumbs 1 long stalk celery, chopped fine. 1 cup diced onion 1 large diced carrot 2 cloves minced garlic 1/2 teaspoon ground sage. 1/2 teaspoon chopped parsley 1/2 teaspoon pepper 1/2 teaspoon kosher or sea salt.
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Grease(or spray with PAM)a loaf pan
Mix all ingredients thoroughly in a large bowl.
pat evenly into pan
Cook 30-40 minutes.
I top mine with brown gravy, but some use ketchup, cheese, or A1 suace. Mr. Scoutgal likes salsa on his.
If I have leftover meatloaf, I make sandwiches on grilled sourdough with thousand island dressing.
milk and Girl Scout cookies ;-)
Save your breath-You may need it to blow up your date.
