Look for rainwater contamination by benzene and other various and sundry volatile compounds in the very near future. Benzene may well turn out to be the "nuclear fallout" from the BP Gusher. Yes, when the clouds of benzene aren't there choking the life out of all living things there will be oil rain with more benzene and other chemicals. Crops, wildlife, fish, drinking water and buildings and home may become contaminated. It might be a good idea that I post Exposure to Benzene from the CDC now before the government has the page taken down or greatly edited.

Reportedly traces of benzene have already showed up in the FL Keys.

Safe levels for benzine are 0-4 parts per billion (ppb), and the May EPA readings are about 3,000 ppb. IMO- Something's up.

Oil Spill Leaking Up To 2.5M Gallons Per Day New Estimate Worse Than Previously Thought
POSTED: Tuesday, June 15, 2010 UPDATED: 6:18 pm EDT June 15, 2010
Scientists provided a new estimate for the amount of oil gushing from a ruptured well in the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday that indicates it could be worse than previously thought.
A government panel of scientists said that the ruptured well is leaking between 1.47 million and 2.52 million gallons a day of oil. That is an increase over previous estimates that put the maximum size of the spill at 2.1 million gallons per day. link

In their latest eyebrow-raising PR move, multinational oil giant BP has enlisted private security contractors to keep onlookers away from oil cleanup sites. While the firm they hired apparently isn't Blackwater (the private security firm Blackwater changed their name to Xe Services after a spate of killings in Baghdad, and has now put itself up for sale), they certainly seem to have 'black water' in their sights. link

I remain how a private company can hire the services of private armed goons to deny public citizens access to public areas. Something about all that just blows my mind. What's worse is that American apparently comply with. Certainly the police comply with it in their jurisdiction, and the city and county governments seem to comply.
In essence then it would seem that if you have the money there is nothing stopping you from hiring a truck full of mercenaries to walk around and deny people access to a state park that you decided to reserve for yourself for the day.
I still believe that we should began a petition to remove the phrase "land of the free" from the national anthem.

New Estimate Worse Than Previously Thought That’s a surprise?! Everyone has seen those videos of the gusher shooting out of the pipe riser at a furious rate. It was obvious to me that a s…load of earl was spewing out and any engineer worth his hydrocarbon would be able to make a fairly accurate guesstimate of the daily amount by taking the size of that pipe and measuring the velocity of the oil shooting out of it. And it could be leaking elsewhere too. That’s why I am puzzled that the previous estimates were so low. Sometimes one can get a good perspective on something by just looking at it.
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.

It would be a sad day in this country where people could not spend their money how they choose. If we restrict corporation's ability to spend their money as they choose, we are also restricting our own freedom to do what we want with our own money, You and I have the same right to use our own many to higher private security and restrict access to a national park for our own interest. That is the beautiful thing about a free market, we are all free to do as we choose. And the more money we have, the free-er we is.

I still believe that we should began a petition to remove the phrase "land of the free" from the national anthem. I propose replacing it by "Land of Debris and Home of the Crazed."
