The following line is a direct lift from the site where I found it:
1880 Helen Keller "blind-deaf author/lecturer had more sense than many "
The following quote amazes more more each time I read it.
"I had once believed that we are all masters of our fate - that we could mould our lives into any form we pleased. I had overcome deafness and blindness sufficiently to be happy, and I supposed that anyone could come out victorious if he threw himself valiantly into life's struggle. But as I went more and more about the country I learned that I had spoken with assurance on a subject I knew little about. I forgot that I owed my success partly to the advantages of my birth and environment. Now, however, I learned that the power to rise in the world is not within the reach of everyone." [italics mine. I think if you look up "compassion" in the dictionary you should find this quote.]

I love this song; it's a great, and very rude, example of her absolutely innocent ability to, well, talk dirty! Caution: serious language warning; NSFW.

As I get older, I’ve learned to really appreciate people who are smart, opinionated, and ornery — yet still have the plasticity of mind to synthesize new ideas and be okay with sometimes failing.

One more birthday to celebrate: Mine. I'll be 50 on Monday.
And I agree with Emma Goldman: "I'd rather have roses on my table than diamonds on my neck. "
Mighty fine opener there, Mellowicious, and the happiest of happy birthdays as you enter this fifth decade of your life. For me it's been the best one I can remember. That being partly due to the fact that I can't remember much about the previous decades.
My 50s were the best too. Happy Birthday, Mellow! I love LOVE that photo. It captures you.
Pit stop here. The best Fest ever. Man, they couldn't get it more right. Hot as hell but that's ok. They had misters strung all over to keep us cool. Big fans in the beer gardens. Music could not be beat. One more afternoon.
I'm back out the door.
Have a great day all.

"Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass...it's about learning how to dance in the rain."
I have slept in so many beds in the last week, I didn't quite know where I was when I woke this morning. I left last Friday for Atlanta, from there to Richmond, College Park, Silver Spring, Lexington, S.C., Atlanta and finally back to Huntsville.
For the most part it was a great trip but very, very hot in DC.
I'm here for two weeks and then the adventure starts again.
