We have a pond that we have been working to restore to a healthy level.
As we have worked to detoxify the water, we have been discovering whole new levels of life in the pond.

We have the run of the mill Wood Ducks, Mallards, river otters (damn them), raccoons...
trout, Kokanee salmon, crawfish...

And a Great Blue Herron that hunts there.

We figure that the herron is what caught the mud puppie we found floating in the pond yesterday.
Appeared to have been skewered about the same as the mud bugs we find.

What was amazing is that we never knew we had mud puppies in the water.

You have crawfish is your neck of the woods?
Oh me. Excuse my ignorance. I thought that was a southern thing.
(oh never mind *blush*, I looked it up)

damn them - river otters. Why damn them? Are they pesky?

Sky, what exactly do you do to detoxify/restore an area like that and why is it toxic in the first place?
How pretty it is.

...least you aint got aligators. They're even more pesky than river otters, They eat Wood Ducks, Mallards, River Otters, Racoons, Great Blue Herons...and dogs if they get a chance. Otters just eat all the fish in the pond.

Good coffee, good weed, and time on my hands...
