Chuck--my twisted mind just can't help recalling this version of "Friends" whenever I hear the name Joe Cocker.

Listening to an interview with Lieber and Stoller - who wrote "Hound Dog" and "Yakety Yak" (among others) -- they didn't care at all for what Elvis Presley did with "Hound Dog," liked Big Mama Thornton's much better. Until the sales figures convinced them otherwise, of course.

I like hearing different interpretations of songs. I don't necessarily judge better/worse; I like to hear what the "new" artist brings to the song.

I like Nine Inch Nails:

AND, I enjoyed seeing Johnny Cash's interpretation:

Agreed (...for the most part, but you have to admit some covers just don't work, ie. Modonna - American Pie).

I love this cover of Walk the Line - it's pretty fricken awesome:

Admittedly, some covers "work" better than others. I don't recall ever hearing the Madonna cover of American Pie....and it certainly seems to be an odd combo. Guess I'll just have to take your word on its unworking nature.

Wow, Phil. I thought I hated that song. She puts a whole new perspective on it. Thank you for that.
