I live in the San Francisco Bay Area city of Brentwood Um...there's no "Brentwood" in El Lay. Ask the post office.

For the 2nd time since dad has lived here, he called San Francisco, "Frisco." I had to again ( ) explain to him that "Frisco" is a derogatory name for San Fransisco and people in NorCal don't like it. It also immediately identifies said person as being from "El Lay." Dad says: Everyone in El Lay says it. Me: I know - that's how we know you're from El Lay. Just don't say "Frisco" anymore and just say what the city is actually called: San Francisco Next time dad says "Frisco," I'll have a contingency of hairy-armpitted byker Lesbians deal with dad - and it wont be pretty. I guess then that you are leading by example by saying "El Lay" in a derogatory way... ![[Linked Image from mail.yimg.com]](http://mail.yimg.com/a/i/mesg/tsmileys2/20.gif)

Is "San Fran" acceptable? As for "El Lay", I know a few people who refer to it as the "City of the Angels" (though I'm sure some would prefer "City of the Dodgers"). And the Lakers!

Oh please, we all know it is "Crisco Frisco".
And no, the queens are not all in WeHo. This county is home to the largest gay/lesbian population in the world, thank you very much, and they/we are housed all over the metro area. ![[Linked Image from rougarants.com]](http://rougarants.com/forum/images/smiles/rotflo.gif)

Remind us rick, where do you live again?
Not SF is it?
Those statistics show 1.3 million in Calif, 440,000 in Los Angeles, 256,000 in Frisco, so where do you think those other 700,000 live? Fresno? No they are almost all in the LA metro. And don't forget the other most populous Gay city...Palm Springs! And where is that, you ask? Why...it's in SoCal- NoCal is called NoCal for a reason.

' But San Francisco also has adjacent areas.
(I just can't force myself to call it "Metro San Francisco"!)

They just call it the Bay Area. I was born in San Jose, and my parents met in Menlo Park.

' But, Rick, if "Frisco" is a derogatory term for San Francisco, which I will agree with, though I think it a pretty minor infraction of etiquette, then surely your use of "El Lay" for la Cuidad de Nuesta SeƱora la Reina de los Angeles de Porciuncula also goes beyond the bourne.
I was born and raised in Los Angeles and never referred to my hometown as "L.A."---I always said "Los Angeles". Though I must admit that I sinned in not pronouncing the "g" in "Angeles" in the Spanish way.
You like to take digs at poor, defenceless Los Angeles. Instead of crudely referring to it as "L.A., why don't you always call it "Los Angeles", but use the Spanish pronunciation. A much more subtle and refined way of shocking the sensibilities of Anglo Angelenos.
