' Coral Die-Off Took Scientist by Surprise...this week, scientists piloted a submersible robot to the seafloor seven miles southwest of the well and found dozens of recently dead and dying coral communities. The site was in the direct vicinity of where large plumes of dispersed oil were discovered drifting through the deep ocean last spring in the early weeks after the spill.
Charles Fisher, a marine biologist from Penn State who is the chief scientist on the gulf expedition, told me he had expected to see some subtle effects from the oil. Instead, he found an ecosystem in collapse.
“I have seen many individual dead coral colonies over the years, but I’ve never seen a site full of dead and dying coral colonies,” he said. Coral colonies are the base for much of the life in tropical waters. Without them, serious, fundamental and uncontrolable changes will occur to the Gulf ecology. Coral is very slow-growing, and will not recover for decades, or centuries.

I don't know what to say other than it's sad and tragic, especially for the people whose lives have been ruined by the "spill."

Multiple independent lab tests confirm oil in Gulf shrimp"I wouldn't eat shrimp, fish or crab caught in the Gulf," said Robert M. Naman, a chemist at ACT Labs in Mobile, Alabama, who conducted the test after being contacted by a New Orleans activist. "The problems people will face, health-wise, are something that people don't understand."
Naman also found that the oil was at an unusual high concentration: 193 parts-per-million (PPM).

Just give it a few years. The gulf spill and it's ongoing plumes will just be another of many long forgotten ecological disasters. http://www.offroaders.com/album/centralia/centralia.htm

Joe--Jindal is a rising star in the Republican ranks and, as the article says, he is hitting all the usual talking points "true conservatives" are supposed to believe--and say publicly.
Although Jindal denies it, this book is his first salvo at becoming president and exposing his "beliefs" on the national stage. Nothing new here.
Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.
