So....

No one want's to think about the idea that one party is more sexualized than the other?

Seems like a big area of politics that never gets discussed. Yet I doubt it's overlooked. We work with the most effective tools at hand. I doubt campaigns ignore it. Just sayin....

This great literature deserves better than the context in which it was placed.

But that post brings to mind another verse, this one made popular by Frankie Laine:

Rollin', rollin', rollin'
Keep those doggies rollin'
Raw hide!

What few understood at the time is that it's a commentary not on the cattle drive but on the toilet habits of cowboys on a long drive.

Always rollin' down hill . . .

define sexualized as you intend the term to be read, please.

Smut!
Give me smut and nothing but!
A dirty novel I can't shut,
If it's uncut,
And unsubt- le.

Though recent books are bolder,
For filth (I'm glad to say) is in
The mind of the beholder.

EVERYTHING IS LEWD!

An excellent definition of salacious, but sexualized? Two of my available dictionaries (Webster On Line and SOED) define it as: to make sexual. I have trouble seeing either party in this context, though the party of Rob Bauman, Larry Craig, Newt Gingrich, and David Vitter does ring a bell.

Well,
what I've been saying all along is that the GOP seem to have more passion currently than do progressives. Passion that seems to be aroused by way of a media that is focused on contextualizing all it's rants in a format that is very reminiscent of the act of sex. Is it that big a jump to see the use of this hook being applied in the carnie shows that are on cheap seat A.M. or FOX?

Granted there are a lot of motivations that are coming into play with people who listen to Limbaigh, etc. What I'm saying is that the style of delivery is more sexed up than that of the left. I'm taking a more human behavioral approach, in the spirit of Desmond Morris, to the propaganda coming from the right. Try to win on reason and your gunna lose. Rationalism does not seem to be a strong suite. So what else?

Why should politics not get packaged with the sex hook?
Is politics being sold with a sex hook on the right?

Limbaugh's narrative style always seems to start out slow, build in tempo and passion, and finally hits the roof. His style is almost like Ravels' Bolero. They seem to all use the same template. Right down to the local radio affiliates' Rush wannabees that fill our local airwaves before or after the Majors are on deck.

It seems that the left gets frustrated with the lack of rationalism and logic coming from these Right Wing entertainers. Even more in trying to understand their fans' loyalty. Maybe it helps to better understand the schtick. Maybe the left should consider it more in theirs.

If the country could buy Limbaugh for what he's worth and then sell him for what he think that he's worth, we could pay off the national debt with the difference.

Go down to your local garage and look at the wall calendar from the various tool makers. Or maybe the beer billboards. Pop and rap/hip hop music video's. The product is sexualized.
All thru visual cues. There also mimickry of the act of sex thru sound or tempo and narrative structure.

Here's some good luvin:

I understand sexualize in the general sense; wasn't obvious what the intended meaning was in the context of this thread. But thanks for the (pun alert) pointer!

So to Churlpat's point, in the sense you describe in your post about the "passion" on the right, yes, the GOP is perfectly happy to sexualize its quest for all consuming power.

Take a look at the leading females in the two parties.

Mikulski:Murkowski
Clinton:Bachmann
Albright:Rice
Pelosi:Palin
etc:etc

It is not a coincidence that the darlings of the right tend to more aptly fit the garage calendar view of what a woman should look like rather than the general population view of what people look like.

The folks leading the message on the right clearly are about power mongering and are quite content to take whatever steps will advance that cause. From Segretti's dirty tricks to the Watergate burglary to the Attorney General's leadership on the coverup thereof to Lee Atwater to Karl (as in Marx?) Rove. Feed the folks at the garage and the women with whom they live red, dripping-red meat, to get their votes and to hell with everything else.

Socialize left and right, spend borrowed money like it's fire in their hands, and tell the saps at the garage that it's the Democrats who are for socializm (oops, a little right wing Freudian slip there) and bigger government and flash a cutie and maybe even a black guy at them from time to time to show how open-minded (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) they are so the saps at the garage can pretend they aren't homophobic, racist, misogynists. Trot out Joe the Plumber to show how committed they are to the average guy. Yeah, they got their freak on and yeah, the freaks they count on are rabid and will get to the polls.

Here's a bit of luvin, Rush luvin, that has that sex thang:

Pretty much the same thing as any other topic. Start slow, hit the roof, then calm resolution. Pretty much run of the mill stuff from Rush. Not the best example but I wanted to wade around in this stuff as little as possible.
Pretty effective for his audience though.
The point is, does the GOP do better because they got their freak on and the Democrats don't? Not since Bubba?
