Sitting on the deck waiting and watching. NOAA forecasts severe rainstorms. NOAA is the only government agency that I trust regarding the weather. Their weather forecasts are usually accurate. At any rate, ...

I've had an opportunity to use Windows7 on a loaned work-related notebook.

Not bad. I'm still lusting after an Apple at some-point-in-my-life.

My Dell is an i5 3.2 mghz, 8 gigs ram, 1.5TB hard drive. Went for mid range set up that is my biz 'puter. Smokes compared to my old HP dual core.

I still have a Pentium 4 CPU 1400MHz 1.4 GHz 512 MB RAM

Hmm

Still works... smile

I bought this computer in December 1999 and at the time at it came loaded with ME. I "remodeled" the computer in 2003, with Windows XP Pro, increased the RAM from 256 to 512, added Audigy 2 sound card, 2.0 USB ports, a digital 15" monitor, a second drive for my music.

The work notebook with Windows 7 that I use shuts down really fast and starts really fast.

Yep, I'm due for a new computer. laugh

One thing I don't like is that if you "upgrade" thru Dell you get OEM pre-loaded software.

I like to have the discs, so I buy the basic model that can be expanded and expand it myself once I get it.

Dell has almost no software loaded and all computers now days don't give you the OS on discs, but it is easy to burn them.

I agree about having program software discs however.

How do you get the OS on a disc with a key? That should be standard in the purchase of a computer.

As soon as you update the OS online you use Windows utility to burn a Recovery disc which contains the OS and drivers, basically an image of your HD
