issodhos, you have apparently never been "grouped" by those who claim a religious doctrinal source, else you would not be nearly so arrogant as to claim that those so grouped created their oppression out of whole cloth.

I only hope you find yourself the object of having been "grouped". It might lead to a more humble attitude.

Numan--are you ok? You've been looking erratic and recently quite pale. Perhaps a sunlamp might help as the NW can be dreary this time of year.

Hmm... did you get this from this thread's original post?

numan...Christians are losing their power in our Federal Government. Starting after WW2 with several religious right groups who failed to bring the bible (old and new testaments) into our government laws, they have mellowed out. I may be the oldest and strongest Atheist on this forum and I have no desire to change any one's opinions on any God. I tried for years to get Christian parents to teach survival skills to their kids instead of simply praying. Praying makes many people lazy and unable to use their brains to improve their lives. 27 years of Red Cross Training showed me that relying on prayers does nothing for anyone.

Politically, these Americans have even given up the higher education for their kids that can keep them as ill-educated for better paying jobs. Being divided Christians has separated Americans into groups based on color, God and sexual choices. Nothing has split up families as much as the built-in bigotry that still permeates our American homes. I sent my kids to Christian school to allow them to learn the myths and superstitions that have captured the children. I threw away the television so that free thinking choices could be introduced.

The last count of American Atheists is now over 35 million Americans. The more educated American generations become the more they will understand reason over religion. I attend a lot of conferences on Atheism and they are not angry. Sure we are called horrible names and on this very forum I was called the Daughter of Satan.

Not for religious belief, but for pedophile relief. Many Catholic Churches have had to sell property in order to pay off their victims.

Hmm

Some might argue otherwise, Ms. Sandune:

Quote
Fundamentalists delayed the intellectual maturation of our nation for over two hundred years, just as they had delayed that of Europe for over a thousand -- always by psychological intimidation, repressive laws, legal harassment, monetary reprisals, and if need be, raw physical force. They fought against education, science, sex education, birth control, medicine, and the amelioration of the condition of humankind. They supported slavery, child labor, exploitative capitalism, onerous punishment schemes, and wars.

* I just happened to find this page as I was perusing their website last night in order to answer the question: How do they know it's a myth?

Otherwise I've never been to their site other than last night - I swear! smile

More than two-thirds of young adults between the ages of 18-22 leave the church. In a new book, Essential Church, authors Thom & Sam Rainer give us the stats and tell us why it's happening.

"The American church is dying. Conversions are declining in almost every denomination. Even in some of the more relatively healthy denominations, conversions to Christianity have stagnated..."

"Not only are we losing our nation to the ways of the world, but we are not winning our own children in Christian families. Multitudes are dropping out of the church."

Commenting on this, Dennis McCallum says, "Most churches have little or nothing going on with college students--the most promising age range for raising up workers who serve God long-term. I think it goes to show that churches are more interested in adults who pay the bills than in raising up workers."
