You are quite right, Scoutgal, everyone in the world lies.
It's just that Americans are wildly enthusiastic about it, and specialize in it. Well, I say something that is patently obvious to me and to many sensible people all over the world, and everyone here denies it with curiously excessive heat and energy. So I wonder, are they just lying, or are they blind? I suppose it could be both. After all, lying to oneself is even more American than lying to other people.

Numan, "they" are "us" for the most part. Are you saying that we lie more than you, more than other peoples? Many of us take your statements very personally because we ARE Americans and it sounds to me as though you are speaking about ME.
If you are, you are violating our guidelines. If not, then I ask that you stop making statements of this sort immediately.

issodhos, I have tried to grasp what you mean by "multicultural lib" and what inner fascist tendencies you refer to over the long time you have posited it as a red herring, but maybe if you gave examples of people or groups who fit the definition. Nice example of "poisoning of the well", Phil. But, a "multicultural lib" is a member of the New Left-influenced modern liberal movement who espouses the politicalized ideology of multiculturalism. It has nothing to do with liking ethnic foods or dressing up in the clothing or costumes of other cultures. In America, when politicized, it is a form of leftist racism. For their own purposes, large corporations tend to be strong proponents of it. As I have explained previously, we all have an "Inner Fascist". It is represented by the desire or need to use the state to control the actions our neighbors and others who may disagree with us. Some of us are better able to keep our "inner fascist" on a leash than are others.:-) Yours, Issodhos

Just curious: is it only liberals who embrace multiculturalism who are offensive or all people who embrace multiculturalism, wherever they sit on the left-right spectrum. George W. Bush comes to mind; he is clearly a multiculturalist having gone to considerable lengths to ensure everyone knew how proud he is of his "brown" relatives.

For example, the want to make English the official language, only wanting Traditional marriage, requiring photo ID to vote, etc.

For example, the want to make English the official language, only wanting Traditional marriage, requiring photo ID to vote, etc. As I have stated over and over, the modern 'conservative' movement is every bit as collectivist in nature as the modern 'lib' movement. That alone makes them more than happy to let loose their inner fascist -- though, with the exception of "Traditional marriage", I do not think your examples quite apply. Do you think that those who decided to put the US into war against North Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq were motivated to do so for religious reasons and "in the name of their Lord and Savior", as has been ignorantly postulated by some in this thread? Yours, Issodhos

Yours, Issodhos Religion had nothing to do with the US going to Vietnam. It was purely to protect the corporations exploiting natural resources in the region. This was the same motivation for invading Iraq. As with most wars throughout history, greed was the motivating factor. Religion is usually an excuse to accomplish self-aggrandizement.

Okay, I admit it. I got sucked into the whirling vortex of misdirection and obfuscation. How many attacks on other nations have been launched by the U.S. government to advance religious purposes this year? 0.
Point taken.
At the same time, how many attacks have been launched by other governments to advance other religions or to attack christians in this country? 0.
Interesting. So it appears that in all of 2010 there have been no government attacks on religion in either direction. Hmmm.
Well, how many terrorists acts were perpetrated in 2010? Let's take a look: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_terrorist_incidents,_2010 (and BTW, if someone wants to use an alternative source for purposes of assessing the argument that christians are under attack, by atheists or others, please post the source and I'll reconsider the data below)
Looks like 94.
How many of those attacks were launched against the United States (and by illogical extension, against christians)? 2
How many of those attacks were launched against other "christian" nations. Well, this is tricky: 18!! Wow!
Except 12 of those 18 were in Greece or Northern Ireland and they appear to have been launched by indigenous (and therefore by illogical extension) christian people against their own (and therefore illogically) christian people.
So discounting the christian-on-christian attacks, 8 out of 94 terrorist acts in recent times were against non-christian people. Guess being a christian isn't so dangerous after all. Despite the series of ignorant posts above suggesting otherwise.
