To anyone here from the southern hemisphere who might be reading this:

May you enjoy your sweltering Yuletide. I wish I were there.

I have always wanted to face the direction of the course of the sun and see it rise on my right hand and set on my left hand --- as Herodotus reported.

" The Phoenicians sailed from the Arabian gulf into the southern ocean, and every autumn put in at some convenient spot on the Libyan coast, sowed a patch of ground, and waited for next year's harvest. Then, having got in their grain, they put to sea again, and after two full years rounded the Pillars of Heracles in the course of the third, and returned to Egypt. These men made a statement which I do not myself believe, though others may, to the effect that as they sailed on a westerly course round the southern end of Libya, they had the sun on their right - to northward of them. I received a message from Humphreysmar today, asking me to let you all know that she's spending the holidays in the hospital. I'm sure that she'll be in touch here as soon as she can.

Thanks, Mell.

Martha,
Get well soon.
I hope this is just a little glitch.
Merry Christmas anyway, my friend.

As he waited in line to pay he glanced across the street and saw the life-size manger scene set up on the front lawn of the courthouse. What surprised him was the fact that the three wise men were all dressed in firefighter turnout gear.

He asked the woman at the cash register what was up with that and she scoffed at him. "Ya'll Northerners don't read your Bible, do you? It says right there that the three wise men came from a far."

Merry Christmas RR friends. I've been a wandering and haven't been around much. I hope you and yours are having a good one.

Ah, wandering women indeed. Guess I can join that list.

Am only here for the moment...to say I posted the new opener and will leave this one as is for now.

It's early in the evening to post it, I know, but I have to be up way too early tomorrow to drive to Monroe, NY to help my son and d-i-l with my new grandson, Carson. He was born Monday. I was there for that but returned to VT for my son's birthday (yesterday) and Christmas with my two beautiful granddaughters.

Nor'easter expected tomorrow down Monroe way, so I hope to be on the road before dawn. (Yawn.)

Happy Holidays to all my RR friends!!

Vivian
