[quote] No, not at all. Members of the Right are commonly referred to here as Wing Nuts and a variety of other "pejorative terms". And I am guilty of using that specific pejorative term and others as well. That ends today.

I read recently that labels hurt. I am guilty of using hurtful labels. That ends today with me.

Within our little RR microcosm I think the working definition for collegial is this:
Characterized by mutual consideration and respect among colleagues.
It's difficult for me to have real respect for political philosophies that I completely disagree with. For the most part however, as per the guidelines, I try to show respect for those who hold them. I must understand at the same time that my own political philosophy is not the be all and end all. Just because I believe it doesn't make it so.

No, not at all. Members of the Right are commonly referred to here as Wing Nuts and a variety of other "pejorative terms". And I am guilty of using that specific pejorative term and others as well. That ends today. The term wing nuts does not refer to the members of the right; it refers to the lunatic fringes on either end of the political spectrum. Literally -- the nuts way out on the wings. An odd place for nuts, perhaps, but we ain't talking normal biology here, Clarence. The following is from the back cover of the Book "Wingnuts --How the Lunatic Fringe is Hijacking America," by John Avlon, published in 2010 by Beast Books, New York, NY. What's a wingnut? A wingnut is someone on the far-right or far-left wing of the political spectrum -- professional partisans, unhinged activists and [paranoid conspiracy theorists. Avlon is the creator of CNN's hit segment, "Wingnuts of the Week", and is a Daily Beast senior political columnist.

I'm not sure I recall anyone using the term here in regard to any but the ones on right side of the aisle. You know, the Fundies, the Wack Jobs, the repUglycons. It's okay, guidelines don't require respect for political parties or extremism. I'm not even sure I know of anyone far enough to the left for me to consider them a wingnut. Republicans, in general, regard anyone who voted for, or approves in any way of, any Democrat, to be a member of the Looney Left.

' Kindergartenal -- NA NA NA NA! Suggesting a stray thought: Since recently Neanderthal Man has been renamed Homo sapiens neandertalensis, perhaps Homo politicus americanus might be re-named Homo politicus kindergartentalensis? · · ·
