In the span of a single news cycle, Republicans got a jarring reminder of two forces that could prevent them from retaking the presidency next year. At sunrise in the east on Wednesday, Sarah Palin demonstrated that she has little interest—or capacity—in moving beyond her brand of grievance-based politics. And at sundown in the west, Barack Obama reminded even his critics of his ability to rally disparate Americans around a message of reconciliation. Read more at Politico.com

Read more at Politico.com"Opportunity" (or perhaps "opportunism") is probably the correct word, rick. Of course President Obama would seek to present himself as the "Great Civilizer" -- he is not being accused by party partisans of being responsible for the killings in Arizona. Palin is. So she must strike a balance between defending herself and her supporters against the smear while still condemning the killings. Bottom line, in my opinion, just about any event that attracts pols becomes cheapened by their presence. Yours, Issodhos

If only the president faced any unjust criticism, we could see how he holds up.

If only the president faced any unjust criticism, we could see how he holds up. Poor fellow. He should probably take a vacation. Eat some Lobster. Play a few rounds of golf. Relax and think up a new campaign phrase or two. How about, "We can be better"? Yours, Issodhos

I think Iss. is right. Obama can't do anything right, no matter what it might be, because that's what his name means, "Can't do anything right primarily because I am a liberal politician".
Sarah Palin's name means, "Everybody is always picking on me, because I'm not a politician I'm just a regular exceptional person, so I must become President".
I believe, based upon an exhaustive analysis of Iss.'s posts that he can do everything right, isn't a politician, isn't exceptional, and isn't a regular person. I don't know what his name means. I hope he runs for President.

Though I might want to watch it at a greater distance from the the American border. · ·

I don't know what his name means. I hope he runs for President. I think becoming a politician would be anathema to someone so opposed to politicians in general. I don't know what his name means either, does a name have to mean anything? I think his full name is Issodhos Exodos.... President Obama has, for the most part, remained above petty criticisms made by his political enemies. His memorial speech was something the President would be expected to do anytime a political assassination attempt takes place and people are killed and wounded. He's just doing his job and doing it pretty well. I don't think there was any reason for Sarah Palin to produce an amateurish video press release regarding the shooting in Tucson. She holds no office, is not a candidate, has no connection to the shooter, the shot, or the state of Arizona. It appears to me to be nothing but cheap and sleazy political grandstanding. But for the children, I might even use the word "trashy"
